Nuclear's low land usage is needed for UK biodiversity!

This motion also does not require the Green Party to directly support nuclear or pledge to build new nuclear power stations, just to drop its current opposition, and take an impartial science based approach in future.

The motion comes along with a background paper on reasons we think the Green Party is wrong to oppose nuclear energy. Carbon-free, reliable, baseload power should not be demonised in the face of the climate crisis.

Greens For Nuclear Everything In Our Power To Tackle The Climate Crisis

This is why we need a Green Party government that is willing to invest in our future and back nuclear power, in a way that is ethical and fair. Join us in pursuing both at greensfornuclear.uk !!

To achieve energy security, the UK also needs a serious nuclear waste management system with either storage or spent fuel recycling (up to 95% of nuclear waste can be reusable as fuel!). This should consider current and future nuclear energy production plans.

For reference, Qatar has the highest greenhouse gas emissions per capita of any country in the World, due to its oil based economy. Its human rights record is poor with horrific treatment of migrant workers. This is not where tax-payer money should be going.

We have to nationalise energy. While it is being developed by GB energy, that is an investment company and it doesn't represent ownership.

Rolls Royce SMR, the company producing the reactors, has many private investors including the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar.

However, while these are steps in the right direction, we cannot expect a Starmer government to invest the money needed to leverage nuclear power to its full potential.

This site will create 900 full time jobs in a highly skilled sector. In rural areas, nuclear power is often the only road for budding engineers, scientists, and technologists. This investment will help the local economy and bring a lot of money into Wales.

Nuclear power has long offered us the opportunity to become energy self-sufficient without the need for gas or oil from Russia or the Middle East.

If we do reach a fully self-sufficient point it would stop consumer's energy bills being held for ransom by the Global gas market.

The Wylfa SMRs news is great! It represents huge investment in Wales and a boost to our energy independence. However if we truly want all the benefits of nuclear energy, we need it to be fully nationalised, away from corporate greed: (🧡)

It's time for better. It's time for nuclear energy.

Ultimately, we are the Green party. We should be willing to do everything we can to stop the climate crisis from worsening. Instead, misguided opposition to nuclear is actively keeping fossil fuel power stations running up and down the country.

Greens For Nuclear Everything In Our Power To Tackle The Climate Crisis

Luckily, we can change this! The Green party is completely democratic, and every member has a say in policy.

If you want to see nuclear phase out natural gas once and for all, join us in helping push for this important change at:

The public knows this too. The Green Party’s opposition to nuclear consistently ranks as one of their least popular policies.

14.11.2025 21:53 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

We agree that renewables are great. But if we want to phase out fossil fuels, we need a co-ordinated effort which brings renewables and nuclear together. This is the ONLY way to protect our planet from climate change, and GET RID of fossil fuels.

14.11.2025 21:53 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

It is also claimed that being pro nuclear energy is inseparable from being pro nuclear weapons. This is just not true.

The 2 things are COMPLETELY different, they just rely on a similar reaction. It would be like saying supporting wind energy means you also support tornadoes!

In reality, nuclear is one of the safest energy sources! Its low emissions and reliability make it worth the money.

When the weather isn't right, only nuclear can still provide electricity. Without it, we do not have the storage capacity to keep the grid balanced.

14.11.2025 21:53 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Despite the stats, current Green party policy says nuclear power is unsafe, expensive, and too slow for the pace of the climate crisis. The section of their website condemning nuclear power is actually bigger than the similar section on fossil fuels.

And it doesn’t end there!

Nuclear land usage AND waste production both come in lower than any other electricity source, whether renewable or fossil fuel.

Nuclear is available 24/7, regardless of weather. Its lifetime greenhouse gas emissions are the lowest of all major sources, and it is also one of the safest per unit of energy produced.

Its fuel efficiency per gram is literally off the charts compared to the big 3 fossil fuels.

14.11.2025 21:52 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

However, in that same time frame, natural gas usage has stayed more or less the same, while nuclear has DECREASED.

Nuclear is completely carbon-free, and if we want net-zero, why are we allowing it to decline, with natural gas in its place?

There is hope. Thanks to efforts from environmentalists all around the World, renewables have grown massively, becoming more efficient and cheaper as time goes on. Coal has been almost phased out of UK energy production with the last coal power station in the UK closing in 2024.

2024 was the warmest year on record: 1.54Β°C above the pre-industrial baseline temperature. This means massive habitat damage, ice caps melting, entire coral reefs bleached and destroyed, and 6-8 inches in sea level rising in just the last 100 years.

Welcome to Greens for Nuclear! We are a group of Green Party members who want to see the party adopt a pro-nuclear energy stance.

Nuclear energy is safe, clean, green, and completely necessary to prevent climate collapse: (🧡)
