I strongly suspect different nations see this as a referendum on different things -- in Canada it would be multiculturalism, which does indeed work.

It's just a feature of Canadian federalism that the provincial and federal riding associations (and everything built on top of them) are separate entities. It is in fact pretty much the same twelve people at the meetings.

I joined because the NDP was environmentally (and otherwise) terrible 20 years ago, and since this was so as to (i) form amoral government in BC whenever possible and (ii) always pose as Friend Of Working Man And Especially Lumberjack, I had no hope of change. Maybe should take another look

The special issues are often pretty good -- pot legalization back in the day, banging the drum about electoral reform today. But for sure there are wellness cranks in there too.

As a very detached Green I would say about 1/3 of us are all about outflanking the NDP to the Left, 1/3 strictly environment first! (so this can include people of otherwise verrry diverse politics), and 1/3 about random special issues

Yes this is what rankles. Want kleptocrats jailed, DOGE prosecuted for data theft, ICE abolished, Trump judges removed, executive orders/pardons annulled? If so they need to say NOW that none of this is normal. File to impeach them all, every damn week! And/or down tools on all govt business

the thing is if you want a university orientated around the classical curriculum and the Great Books, St John's already exists! but what they wanted was somewhere where they could be intellectually fellated 24/7. this is the opposite of an actual classical education, which should be humbling.

The size of the individual retail spaces is dictated by city code? We have the same problem in Toronto and I assumed it was just developer cheapness - they leave these hangar-like spaces and the displaced small businesses never come back
