Over the past few decades I've accumulated hundreds of gigabytes of not-very-well-catalogued MP3s. They're all still sitting on my NAS, and part of me is thinking it'd be nice to get them properly organised. Another part is hovering its finger over the Delete key...

Is it really true that Logic doesn't have a chord track? That's baffling. Completely kills it for me (not that I was seriously considering switching anyway).

I like this hat, and I like this jacket, but when I wear them together I look like a racing driver.

Need to get me a pair of these so I can switch patches without accidentally stomping on two buttons at once and inadvertently activating tube-screamer mode in the middle of the breakdown.

How did I not previously notice that Tie Your Mother Down is basically an AC/DC song? (Except that it really needs another guitar in the chorus.)

Excited that our very-long-awaited ski trip (we booked in JULY) is now less than three weeks away. And look at all the facilities in our holiday apartment!

I'm not saying that LTNs are necessarily bad, but this report seems to imply that they're a success because a) there is now less traffic on roads where motor vehicles are banned and b) the corresponding increase in traffic on other roads has not been infinite.

It doesn't make much difference to my overall storage situation, but I was quite delighted earlier today to discover that, by resaving an image as a flat JPEG rather than a multi-layer PSD, I was able to reduce its size on disk from 495MB to 11MB.

The Synology BeeStation is coming in for review next week, and I'm intrigued to find out whether it's brilliant or bobbins. I can really see it going either way.

I'm not saying the 1974 Joseph is the pinnacle of good taste and restraint, but compared to the clownish 1991 one it's like a recital on the embassy lawn.

This has happened to most women, if your friends aren’t telling you about it ask yourself why they don’t trust you

I'm active on BlueSky, Threads and I like crisps.

I hate how this stumbling, ungrammatical construction finds its way into even quite respectable publications.

Oh hey, the Apprentice candidates just walked through City North (i.e. directly outside my front window).

I mean, if you add a bit of the compressed signal to the clean one, IS that different to blending between the two and pumping up the makeup gain a little? Why am I asking you?

07.03.2024 20:10 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

I read a post this morning arguing that wet/dry mixing is NOT the same as parallel compression, and I'm still going back and forth on it.

A lot of events in my life seem quite recent until I think about what phone I had when they happened.

Editing today's podcast is proving to be fun. If you fancy a bit of entertainment (hmm) you can try to spot the anomaly where a lost half-sentence had to be, shall we say, creatively restored.

I don't think I'm going to stick with it. The stuff that's different is not revealing itself to be advantageously so.

Optimistic partly because of course Apple wouldn't make it that easy, and partly because my batting average vis-à-vis seeking help and advice on social media is so poor it makes my actual batting average look pretty respectable.

My Time Machine backups are currently occupying about 4½TB of NAS space. I have a strong suspicion that 80% of that is unnecessary copies of the Applications and Downloads folders. I guess it's hopelessly optimistic of me to ask if I can selectively remove those directories from an existing archive?

The Little Shop of Horrors debacle has got me mulling: was there ever a director's cut that was (IYHO) genuinely better than the original? I can think of Blade Runner, maybe.

I do beg your pardon, this was GOOGLE SHEETS, not Excel. Still.

I've tended to think of the cell formatting options in Excel as basically cosmetic. Today I'm revising that view, having just entered "£10.99" into a cell, only to see it silently change to "€10.99" upon my hitting Return.

Friends say it's fine – friends say it's good – so I'm trying out the Arc browser. After 15 years of Chrome it feels weird and unfamiliar, but I guess that's kind of its whole deal. I'll give it 24 hours. Tick tock.

I found a copy of the original version. I wanted Scarlett to see it so she wouldn't be traumatised by the apocalyptic ending of the "director's cut", but in the end I think she preferred the alternate conclusion. "The second one had a happy ending," she conceded, "but the first one had more eating."

I know I'm new here, and still finding my feet and seeking out my people, but the suspicion is stealing upon me that switching to BlueSky because you weren't getting engagement on Threads is like moving to Scotland to get away from the rain.

Is it just me or do scam calls always claim to be from O2? I've literally never had anyone say they're calling from EE or Vodafone.

Maybe it's because my number was originally registered with O2, but if that's their angle then it ain't working as I've switched networks more than once since then...
