I don't post enough here for this to render me leads but a friend of mine just sent me their zine and I'm so endlessly charmed by them--if anyone here makes zines or newsletters or ANYTHING like that, please lmk so I can dive in!
Iβm really interested in some of their macro lenses! They seem awesome
2x3 crop of a wide-angle shot of London Brentford. A series of 4 white external stairs form a spine upon a classic redbrick set of flats.
playing with the Laowa 10mm cookie lens is always fun.
It's MF w/ some heavy vignetting, but has a lot of charm (and really good anti-distortion!).
This is a 2x3 crop of a larger shot in Brentford, London. I liked the way the external stairs look like vertebrae π©»

16x9 side profile of a wren perching on a bush. Its mouth is half open in song.
I spotted this wren yesterday at James Ramsay Park in Fraserburgh and it sang!! I love that you can see its little tongue in the second one

A 16x9 shot of a crow facing towards the right but looking directly in the camera. There is grass in the bottom left of the image and sea in the far background. The light is clear and crisp as it reflects off the crow's sharp beak.
A 16x9 shot of a crow vocalising. Its beak is open and it is facing to the right of the image. Grass is in the foreground and the background is a blurry blue sea.
A 16x9 shot of a crow facing to the right, with its head turned to the left and its beak closed. The feathers reflect the light and the crow appears calm and observant. Grass is in the lower foreground and a blurry blue sea is in the background.
16x9 side profile of a crow low in the grass. It is facing to the right and its beak is closed, though the feathers at the back of its head are slightly ruffled. The detail on the crow is very sharp, but the grass in the lower sixth of the image is very blurred, as is the sea in the background.
A throwback (crowback?) to August last year at Aberdeen beach, where I met a very compliant crow and took these shots. I love photographing these arguably more mundane Scottish birds: they're so beautiful and intelligent.

A notch in the hillside in the Cairngorms, Scotland. The picture appears monochrome even though it is taken in full colour.
The view of 'eagle valley' in the Cairngorms in Scotland. Again, the picture appears monochrome at first glance even though it is taken in full colour.
I'm not usually one to yearn for the short days and biting cold, but for some reason I woke up today wishing I were back in the Cairngorms. #scotland #cairngorms #photography #landscapephotography
A stonechat sits just in front of some desiccated thistles. The colours are greens and oranges, though not particularly vibrant
A stonechat backlit by the setting sun, perched on a branching tree. Dune grasses sit in the lower left foreground
A common shelduck swims off in a very still sea, leaving a wake behind it.
The aurora, as seen from my window. Streaks of purple sit above a starry, clear night, descending into a sea of green. Trees and the tops of buildings are seen in the lower quarter
Here are some photos from the βrealβ camera from yesterday. Lots of tasty grain, but Iβm psyched about the amount of detail I recovered even in such low light.

The sun sets red and fat over rosehearty, Scotland, with some dune grasses in the foreground.
Aurora from my window, right now.
Good skies today in Rosehearty and Fraserburgh

Bright, sunny day at Aberdeen beach. Photo is taken from the prom and shows the harbour in the distance with the groynes and path ahead in the foreground.
Deserted Codonaβs theme park. Foreground is a helter skelter; background is a ferris wheel.
Strava records for the week, showing I walked 51.2km
Sunday stroll along Aberdeen beach, to make sure I hit 50km this week. Got divebombed by a hungry seagull but very worth it.
Itβs six weeks til I walk the London marathon in aid of Prostate Cancer Research. You can donate here www.justgiving.com/page/asharat...
A yellow/gold xanthoria sits in the centre of the frame atop a backdrop of green metal. The metal is peeling to reveal bright crimson below.
A blue-grey crustose lichen on stone. The photo is taken at high magnification and shows small clusters of vibrant orange apothecia, with pronounced margins.
A soggy green lichen photographed on a tree in Fraserburgh, Scotland. The lichen has crowded apothecia of varying sizes, with jammy brown/purple disks and thalline margins. The margins are covered in small bumps.
A macro photo of several crustose lichens competing for space on a tree.
Lovely meeting of the @britishlichensociety.org.uk's data committee this evening. On a lichen theme, then, here are some photos I took whilst I was on the BLS's excellent LABS course (Lichens for Absolute BeginnerS) last year.

a misty view of princes street, with Edinburgh Castle trapped in haze in the back of the image. Image is taken from the bridge above the gardens: foreground is an iron railing.
A vibrant view from a train windowβas a long slow evening leaches blue from the sky. The foreground is a freshly ploughed field and a telephone pole. The background is the east coast of Scotland and the sky above
Golden hour envelops the landscape - a view from a bridge of a road passing below, and a glowing sun descending in the distance
Not going to lie, I dropped my phone and this pic snapped as it fell to the floor of the train carriage. A blurry photo of the Scottish landscape. Some gold-lit foliage in the foreground, and the blurry silhouettes of trees in the backgroundβbut the focus is on a rather grubby train window
a misty morning in Edinburgh burned off to a lovely golden hour as I headed north. now watching from a bus as the starlings murmur in the dusk
(thanks @lner.co.uk for another gorgeous trip!)

Finished my Van Gogh ish quilt, it is just a throw size. Salute to Van Gogh when he was in the mental hospital working on his irises, so I created a window perspective. #quiltsky , #quilting, #quilts , #sewing .
I have GOT to start shouting more about the fact I'm walking the london marathon this year for Prostate Cancer Research (www.justgiving.com/page/asharat...). I'm going to start posting more here and flogging the link--sorry!!! but the cause is important to me so it's worthwhile. π
A picture of a pelican in water. The pelican has been flapping its wings and the water is very disturbed. The pelican is facing forwards.
one of my favourite pictures from @edinburghzoo.bsky.social on Sunday, on a training walk for my London Marathon Walkathon in aid of Prostate Cancer Research (www.justgiving.com/page/asharat...)
This should be mandatory reading for scholars across the board

A misty early morning in Nottingham, with a pink sandstone church on the left of the frame, and a tree-lined street ahead
A golden sunrise at Nottingham railway station.
A clear blue sky dotted with steam from an industrial plant. The foreground of the image has an iron rail crossing diagonally from left to bottom right, and a pond separates the rail from the industrial plant in the background
The Tyne, taken from a train pulling into Newcastle. The day is sunny and bright, and small fluffy clouds gather in the blue sky

Thank you so much!! I think I was helped by how snowy it wasβit basically made the whole place its own lightbox

and finally, this shot at the base of the slope
a woman post-ski run, looking exhausted. Her hand is up by her face
the same woman is smiling happily to herself, looking proud

a Cairngorm mountain employee, replete with skis, walkie-talkie, red jacket, and very long drill, skis down the slope
the drill and skis from the previous shot, abandoned in the snow
intriguing to watch this mysterious-looking man on a mission with his drill. huge appreciation for people like him who keep the mountain safe and fun
a man in an orange jacket skis down a slope, accompanied by a small child in a pink jacket with yellow gloves
the child strikes out alone, appearing confident
a short thread of my favourite Cairngorm candids!
There were lots of parents and carers out helping their little ones channel their bravery! It was great to watch them learn to love zooming around on their skis
