"Good news for T***p before midterms: he's still more popular than cockroaches" (Guardian). Personally, I would prefer a cockroach as President.

The bassoon originated from the Celtic oon, a bagpipe with neither bag nor pipe. Variants: the twin-piped doubloon; the oon with a harp; the balloon, (sheep's stomach stuck in a drainpipe); the musketoon (fired out live shells); the oon that had to be carried on a cart (sketch never built.)
"Zimbabwe swiftly administered the coupe de grace."
This must be a dessert I've not had the good fortune to taste. I only know a coupe de glaces but you wouldn't serve that at a cricket match.
"Although her father was enormously wealthy, he was known to abuse his children both verbally and physically."
You might just as well put 'because.' There should be a name for a false contrast- I'm going to call it a simitrast or a conilarity.
That might be fit for purpose but is the purpose fit for purpose?
"Scientists rebuild images of man decapitated after death to stop him returning as a 'vampire.'" Thank goodness for science, otherwise the world would be crawling with vampires.
It is not widely known that when Newton was sitting under the apple tree, the apple didn't just fall, it fell then bounced straight up again. Which is how he discovered levity.
"Fake Viagra warnings after police seize 20β million illegal pills" The Times.
Yep, need to beware of fake warnings, especially about that.
"Time will heal Beckham family relationship, says Gordon Ramsay"
I try to stay a fan of the British Broadcorping Castration but in what universe is this front page news?
Great picture. Hundreds of these appeared a few days ago where I take my dogs for a walk - never seen them there before!
An amazing man and an equally amazing occasion
I imagine they're all looking at the tall post behind and saying "You can have it," "No, you have it." Very evocative image!
True, I often think "wow, what was that?" when I hear a call and it's the Drongo (this fellow looks a bit bedraggled!)It's great to see how many of your magnificent images are of birds I find up here in Chiang Mai. They are a constant joy to behold.
Meanwhile, the meerkats, monkeys and llamas lived in perfect hyphen-free harmony
Yes, indeed, but 1960's?! Lived in one for most of the 1940's. There's actually a website devoted to them and I was astonished to find someone had posted a picture of me standing in front of ours circa 1947
In the same drawer as the Brahminy kite, whose limp call is quite at odds with its strapping appearance
I must have misread the headline. I thought it was an attempt by a political party to make cheese that had flopped.
"Potential ethical conflicts"? In this presidency? Surely not.
I like the idea of removable genitalia
Stunning capture! Really interesting to see the two calling together.
a high-pitched but soft call, though not very melodious!
a lovely, whooping call
Fascinating! I can manage 10 kHz (eg Scarlet-backed flowerpecker) but there's one that shows up loud and clear in Audacity that I have to bring down a step of two to hear. Haven't id'd it yet. (Also never got round to spectrograms so this is very educational!) Thanks.
What a handsome creature! I'm sure most young ladies would rather kiss this than some princes I know of.
Great shot. When the lights failed at the Ambassador's garden party a while ago, I tossed my celery sticks back over my head into the bushes. The lights came back-guests found my celery sticking out of the trifle.
Great shots. I love listening to their drumming
Great, as always. Or ..... in the interests of balance, LK interviewed god.

Visitor to the house last night. Daphnis hypothous, Jade hawkmoth (I think, I can never tell it from D. nerii.)
It spent the night in the kitchen but I persuaded it to leave in the morning.
The third image is Daphnis nerii, I think #moths
Stunning visuals, as usual! And fascinating glimpse of the behaviour. Unless my eyes deceived me, it had a quick pee while feeding.
