Which leads to doing a lot of things in one burst then assessing. But I'm not a professional artist (unless indie ttrpg self publishing is professional 😂)

I often have to make an attempt and then judge it against what I wanted to produce, which is not really an explicit visual criteria as in reproducing something as visually close as possible. It's more like did it fulfill the ideas that lead to that first visualization/composition you do (I assume).

So a bit more like internal vs external ref.

This is it, I'm one such artist. I often wonder isn't just reproducing something you can perfectly visualize in your minds eye a bit like tracing? I still have a concept of what I want and composition etc, its just I don't know what specifically will come out in any one attempt so might start again.
