I *dared* say something that said something that was not 110% condemning of “the other app” (apparently even saying the name on here is considered a slur).
I have received similar outrage for not 110% condemning AI, and for not using alt text on an image once.
If by “clever” you mean 2012-era quirk chungus Reddit humor, it’s not me.
As far as “kind”, there’s no such sort here. Having hobbies like knitting and reading books doesn’t make you “kind” if you lash out at anyone who doesn’t fit the hive mind.
Nobody *has* to be there. But the original comment asked “WHY is anyone still there!?!?” So I answered.
But people here don’t want answers, they want to hand wring and scold, scold, scold.
The thing about being someplace where there’s diversity in opinion is that we *can* treat them like pariahs, because we’re there to do it.
In an echo chamber, those opinions are allowed to exist unchecked.
I mean all of social media is a nacho chamber in some fashion.
Other apps just have a bigger diversity in users and opinions, even if some of those people and opinions are incredibly shitty.

The problem is that most of the people/content I want to follow just… isn’t here. The user base is mostly Elder Millennials with graduate degrees.
A lot of people I liked made accounts here and I followed them, but rarely post due to poor engagement.
Most democrats *have* moved here. Thats why it feels like such an echo chamber.

It’s easy to block out the Nazis since most of them are bots. Coming here feels like I’m stuck in a room full of people with postgraduate degrees having a panic attack.
The word “viable” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
Yeah there was signs of that exodus happening to here in late 2024, but it fell off pretty fast.

As sad as it is, X is more representative of the electorate than this app.
This place has big “inside the beltway” energy.
There hasn’t been a viable alternative appear yet. The hell-site still has a lot of non-Nazis on it that haven’t yet found a home elsewhere.
There hasn’t really been a good alternative convincing people to fully ditch it. This app had promise early on, but it’s become such an echo chamber and frankly not fun.
