Happy to, if you still need someone
Extremely disappointing to hear how @uniofaberdeen.bsky.social senior management remain intransigent on actually resolving disputes with @ucu.org.uk and adhering to the Fair Work policy as they try to force through changes on an unreasonably short timescale without involving staff properly
I *guess* it makes sense if you think of measuring racial disparities as a numerical exercise (the rote nature of those approaches are why the 'cottage industry' of "disparities research" may be vulnerable to "GenAI", IMO)
Canada has waived biometrics before in exceptional circumstances, such as when it helped Ukrainians come to Canada.
Would it be cheap to make the mate in joke 1 dyslexic? Punching down? How do dyslexic folk feel about dyslexia jokes, where the joke's the incongruity of the misspelled word and the intended one, rather than the person who's dylexic...
Nah, has to be joke 1, even though it works better in writing. Joke 2 too wordy.
Guy visits hes mate, who's a political strategist. Finds him upstairs, advising his ceiling on a scandal. Asks him what the hell he's doing. "I'm insulating my loft, what's it look like??"
Talking about myself obvs, not the person I'm quoting, who I'm sure's perfectly lovely.
No. But i do have a housework playlist. What a fecking loser.
Guy visits his mate, finds him upstairs shouting obscenities at the ceilling. Asks him what the hell he's doing. He says "I'm insulting my loft".
"According to the published research, 54% of Reform members thought non-white British citizens born abroad should be forcibly removed or encouraged to leave, while one in five (22%) also supported it for non-white citizens whose parents were born in the UK" www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Picture from @ucunorthumbria.bsky.social says it all! You can't improve the 'student experience' by demeaning and demoralising staff through freezing their pay @northumbriauni.bsky.social @andylong6.bsky.social @georgeclarke.bsky.social!
1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health
What if there was a mindful way to steal peopleβs art, pollute Black neighborhoods, and raise everyoneβs electric bill?
Honestly I think the leadup to the Iraq war was worse than all this because the buy-in was so all-encompassing. I keep asking myself how anyone could fall for it again but the thing is, they mostly haven't
I advertised the hell out of my incompetence this morning, trying to use Panopto to project multiple windows π¬π¬π¬
"A TWAIL-inspired approach to reparations... draws attention to the unjust enrichment of those responsible for colonialism and slavery, who have benefited from exploitation and victimization, to illuminate world systems and hold them accountable."

Jayme Lawson from Sinners hit the nail on the head and said how I felt with the whole BAFTAs situation.
I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves. Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone. That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins. If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after. Sahar Delijani, Iranian author
I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own governmentβs repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.
I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.
Sahar Delijani said it best:
An understated part of this: teaching staff, PhD students, research support staff, technical staff, facilities workers + more ALL voiced zero confidence in university leadership.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to get all these people to agree on anything. The boss is truly the best organizer.
β’ In England and Wales, drug-related death rates are: β’ highest for 40 to 49-year-olds at 14.7 deaths per 100,000. This is at least 1.5 times higher than for any other age group β’ more than twice as high for men than women (12.8 deaths per 100,000 compared with 6 per 100,000) β’ higher in the north of England. In the North East the rate is 17.4 deaths per 100,000, three times as high as the rate in London (5.8 deaths per 100,000) β’ more than five times higher in the most deprived fifth of local areas (21.7 deaths per 100,000) than in the least deprived fifth of local areas (4.1 per 100,000).
Iβm pleased to see @zackpolanski.bsky.social standing firm on drugs legalisation - if they actually cared about the lives of white working class men theyβd be seeking solutions, as drug related deaths are 3x higher in the 93% white North East than London with deprived areas being by far the worst
Very surreal to know the artist I listened to most in my early childhood appearing on the same track as the artist i've probably listened to more than any other in my adulthood π€
Totally agree, and can see you've done exceptionally well in ensuring a university doesn't pay disingenuous lip-service to it. I signpost students to the best practitioner groups in the legal profession, to protect them against the sector's toxicities. They certainly helped me!
A useful reminder from the Court of Appeal today:
"Deference to the judgment of the legislature cannot be taken too far in the context of equality and discrimination cases... it is an important function of the courts to protect minorities, in particular small and perhaps unpopular minorities..."
That cry baby is using the Donald Trump handbook. Cry, Acuse and never take responsibility.
Didn't stop bbc radio nottm from having the local reform nobhead on this morning. Only had it on because i hadn't been bothered to change it over from the footy last night.
