Discoveries reveal Arabian Gulf hosts both ancient fossil bed containing newly identified sea cow species and world’s largest living dugong herd Two new studies co-authored by a Texas A&M at Galveston biologist reveal Qatar as a 20-million-year hot spot for dugongs past and present.

EcoMorphLab publications! A pair of dugong papers out of Qatar highlights the discovery of a new 21 million old sea cow and new data on large aggregations of modern dugongs in the area. Check out the Texas A&M Press release summarizing both!.

Bluesky’s logo, a trusted verifier’s scalloped checkmark, and a standard verified blue check mark.

We’re introducing a new layer of verification on Bluesky β€” a user-friendly, easily recognizable blue check.

In addition to account verification issued by Bluesky, we're also introducing Trusted Verifiers. Select independent organizations can verify accounts directly.

As a curator at a natural history museum, I'm gutted to learn about the dismantling of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. If anything, we need to fund, protect and preserve museum collections and uphold institutions of scientific and cultural knowledge now more than ever.

A cute little porcelain crab. The crab is orange/red with lots of white spots ringed in red all over its body.

Do sharks exhibit heterodonty by tooth position and over ontogeny? A comparison using elliptic Fourier analysis Ontogenetic changes in morphology are limited in bull sharks and do not occur in blacktip and bonnethead sharks. Heterodonty is ubiquitous within the jaws of each species. Significant interspecific d....

Our new work in ecomechanics using sharks to integrate trophic ecology w bite performance (Front in Mar Sci) builds upon past work on shark tooth morphology published in JMorph. Check out both.

Excellent new #OpenAccess paper by Holly Stokes and others demonstratng lack of negative impacts of satellite tracking of juvenile hawksbill turtles. Important insights from long term work. More studies appraising impacts needed 🐒🌍πŸ§ͺπŸ¦‘ 🌐🦀

I like how you roll. I think about pinniped teeth and sea turtle beaks. Why reduce mastication or give up your teeth?

Testing and Masking Policies and Hospital-Onset Respiratory Viral Infections This cohort study examines the ratio between hospital- and community-onset respiratory viral infections at different levels of testing and masking from 2020 to 2024.

Most hospitals have dropped masking & #SARSCoV2 testing requirements. But after 10 Boston hospitals ended both precautions a surge in hospital-onset viral infections ensued. Just resuming masksβ€”for healthcare workers onlyβ€”lowered rates of respiratory infections by 33% jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

A pleasant Thanksgiving surprise . Our work on shark ecomechanics, which integrates bite performance with trophic ecology using stable isotopes, was officially published - a solid ecomorphological piece of work.
