I sold my car and our household went down to one car. Itβs been great. More walking, biking, and transit -we havenβt missed the second car. The more we make those options safe and reliable, the more people can do the same.
A hand holds a library copy of the book Dividing Lines: How Transportation Infrastructure Reinforces Racial Inequality by Deborah N. Archer in the foreground. The background shows a trolley platform with train tracks, covered waiting areas, and several people standing and sitting while waiting. The traffic signal ahead is red, and the station appears slightly out of focus behind the book.
Transit commute + Dividing Line by
ACLUβs Deborah Archer. Infrastructure isnβt neutral. If we want cities built around safe streets and public transit, we have to make that future easier to build for the communities who rely on it most.

Graphic with the Slow Boring logo above the words βSlow Boring San Diego Meetupβ over a faded San Diego skyline background. Event details at the bottom read: βMarch 10 | 5:00β7:30 PM | The Church by The Lost Abbey (Downtown).β
If you live in San Diego and read Slow Boring, this is your bat signal. Iβm co-hosting a meetup(3/10) for readers of Matt Yglesiasβs newsletter. Policy nerds, housing wonks, transit heads welcome. form.123formbuilder.com/6936107/slow...

These three books really shaped how I thought about government and state capacity in 2025 β why it struggles to deliver, and how it can do better: Abundance by @ezraklein, Why Nothing Works by @MarcDunkelman, and Recoding America by @pahlkadot. What belongs on my 2026 list?
Huge thanks to Toni for supporting my ride in the first @centerrideout. Today is Transit Equity Day, honoring Rosa Parks on her birthday and her courage to demand dignity on public transit. Appreciated seeing @sdmts reserve a seat in her honor πβπΎ A good reminder of why investing in transit that works for everyone still matters.
π²For the fourth year in a row, more people are biking on 30th Street in North & South Park. Since protected bike lanes were installed, ridership has more than doubled and now tops 130,000 trips a year. When streets feel safer, more people ride. www.kpbs.org/news/quality... @kpbssandiego.bsky.social
Speaking to the press today about a heartbreaking preventable tragedy. A 6-year-old was killed by a hit-and-run driver making a left turn on Ingraham St, part of the PB bike path a block from an elementary school. Enough is enough. We must invest in streets that put safety first.
MEDIA ADVISORY: On November 16, 2025, Families for Safe Streets, Circulate San Diego, and advocacy organizations will observe World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Itβs my birthday, and all I want is better transit and safer streets. If you want to celebrate with me, join me and renew your Circulate membership for 2026.
Current Sunday status: me reading the @nytimes, Jason gaming, Twist and Cassio napping. Domestic bliss. (Donβt mind the mid construction edges of the photo)

Up early this morning with the SDHF for the release of their annual Housing Needs Assessment Report. Itβs a clear call to action: we need to keep funding vital services, invest in affordable housing, and build more homes across San Diego. Full report: www.housingsandiego.org/blog/housing...

Eighty-one years ago tomorrow, my grandfatherβs plane, Lady Marie, was shot down over Germany. He spent 13 months in a POW camp, having risked everything to fight fascism. That fight isnβt over. Honor the pastβdefend democracy today.
