BREAKING: Ukraine is still fighting for its survival.
Last year I haven´t written long threads on Ukraine because the main points didn´t change:
1) On the frontline:
Russia still grinds on. Ukraine still puts up fierce resistance. Ukraine faces still the same problems

Ukraine is holding on and it´s shameful to see that they still have to do it while support is only trickling in.
The US are gone as long as Trump rules.
Europe has to... I am tired of repeating that...
May Ukraine prevail!

Russias goal is a subjugated Ukraine and if successful in Ukraine it (and others) will be emboldened to go further.
Ukraine is in a dire situation and Russia tried to subdue it with its terror attacks this winter while largely failing on the battlefield.

haven´t realized what is at stake in Ukraine. Russian propaganda is working efficient and manages to gaslight Europeans into believing that Europe is doomed. China and the Trump regime do their best to expand on this.
It is not.

Bottom line: The war will continue. The best/worst we might see is a ceasefire that won´t hold for long. But I don´t count on it.
Western support remains crucial and that´s still Russias main hope of winning. EU is dealing with problems on its own and still many seemingly

5) Ukrainian internal problems
Corruption is still one of the biggest problems in Ukraine and although steps are taken toward bettering it, it still inflicts an unnecessary big drain on ressources and on morale.

4) Russian economy
It´s struggling. Hard. But that does not diminish it´s capabilities to wage the war for some time. With Chinese support and sanction evading it can go on for quite some time.

3) Negotiations
There are no real negotiations. Russia is using them to deflect and stall. Russia never changed its stance and it´s goal is the end of a sovereign Ukrainian state. They want a puppet Ukraine. Trump is only negotiating because he wants a quick peace which

Europe still hasn´t figured out a meaningful strategy which hampers every step toward opposing Russia forcefully. Ukraine is partly dependent on the whim of 27 states national states. Europeans still seem to struggle to understand that less support means further escalation.

2) Western support
Ukrainian success depends on Western support. If it dries up it will get rough.
The US under Trump predictably largly wthdrew its support and Europeans had to step in. European support has to increase but Hungary and Slovakia try to sabotage that.

as before. That is: manpower, Russian glide bombs, Zerg rushes. What is new: Russia made big progress when it comes to drones.
Ukraine capabilities have developed when it comes to long range strikes.
The war will grind on as long as Russia believes it can win militarily.

In 1598 Fedor died and Boris should become Czar but his missing legitimacy and the supposed murder of Dmitry were stains he couldn´t get rid of.
Avram Palitsyn - monk and historian - described his reign as "not a happy one."
But that´s a story for another day...

We still don´t know how Dmitry came to death but Boris Godunov was credited with his murder by many afterwards, most powerfully so in Mussorgskys "Boris Godunow."
But all those calamites where minor breezes compared to what should follow. ⬇️

His corpse was brought to Moscow but that didn´t calm things down. Only when Boris cracked down on the Nagois and their followers peace was restored.
Sir Jerome Horsey - a British envoy - gives a lively account of what happened:⬇️
