Had to...
Had to...
I've been running gdcparties.com for a few years now. Some shitty company BlueberryAI decided they'd just take all the source code for the work I've done and reskin it, advertising it as their own. Jokes on them...it was still linked to my events spreadsheet, and now their website looks like this 😉
Looking at my shelves, I haven’t watched Iron Monkey, God of Gamblers or Full Alert in at least a decade each. I think they myth be next on the list.
It definitely loses its way for the last third, but the first hour is great stuff. I’ll grab the Blu if I find it cheap somewhere, but it’s not worth the £23 I’ve just seen it listed for.
Was it Tas? 😄
This movie really loves fire.
Jeeeeesus pissing Christ!
Richard Ng is in this too. One of the best comedy actors there’s ever been. He basically looks like a Chinese Sammy Davis Jr and has THE best comic timing.
You could be a third as beautiful, talented, charismatic or physically adept as Michelle Yeoh and still be a superstar. My word, she’s got it all. Imagine if she hadn’t married the hilariously named producer Dickson Poon and we got that extra five years in the late 80s and early 90s.
I think I know why I haven’t seen this in so long: the sound effects track phases horrendously. It sounds like all the action takes place in a shipping container.
Now, you might think the obvious double bill might be Yes Madam! or Royal Warriors, but I haven’t seen THIS for years.
It’s basically Michelle Yeoh as Indiana Jones while a bunch of lunatics with death wishes do some of the craziest stunts ever filmed all around her.
🎶“With a bang, my lawsuit will lead the way.” 🎶
What a movie.
He’s also clearly not a stuntman from the obvious doubles in the climactic fight (nobody could at least get the same haircut?!), but he takes a full slow motion kick to the head from Yuen Biao. Props.
This is (rightfully) thought of as the Cindy and Biao show, but Melvin Wong is fucking great in this.
One double just made me burst out laughing. I can’t tell you where it is as it’s be a major spoiler, but if you know you know. 😂
If you thought Cynthia Rothrock had some obvious doubles, wait till you see Karen Sheperd’s succession of Chinese lads in Def Leppard wigs doing her falls and slides for her. 😂
Maybe I’ve just seen this film a lot over the years, but I swear the score has been in like 6 movies. 😄
ASCII art Yuen Biao. 😄
In a movie that’s either kick-ass action or broad comedy, Wu Ma totally nails the dramatic scene where he shows up at the crime scene to find his father and son’s bodies without it turning into the usual HK melodrama.
Superintendent Wong took Sammy into his office for question for either two or three days, if you go by the calendar. 😄

For once, the cover is pretty representative of the content. 😄
I love how 80s HK basically had about 40 actors, divided into two troupes: the ones that did all the Heroic Bloodshed stuff with John Woo and Ringo Lam, and the gang that did all the martial arts stuff with Jackie, Sammo, Yuen Kwai etc.
Yuen Biao, in his murderer gloves and action cardigan, one of the few people to ever UNLOCK a car door on screen.
Pretty sure that’s New Zealand doubling for “England” in the opening. I know the plane stunts at the end were shot there so it makes sense to shoot an opening car chase full of white people where a Triumph’s number plate changes three times there too. 😄
Let’s go!
WAIT!!!
There’s an ActRaiser remake?! I’ve loved the original for 30 years.
