Delighted to receive the latest issue of Law and Justice, which includes my article on the Supreme Court decision on religion in a school in Northern Ireland. It’s an extended version of the blog post I published at the time. Email me - SandbergR@cf.ac.uk - if you have want a copy.
An interesting High Court decision that will require detailed study.
Here’s the full judgment: www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/u...
My new blog post explores Christian Nationalism and critiques the pledge from Reform UK to introduce a 'patriotic curriculum' in schools that would put Christianity at its heart.

Following the recent Supreme Court decision, reforms are being made to religion in schools in Northern Ireland.
Answers from the Education Minister sheds further light on this reform as my new blog post discusses.

Yesterday, a Bill was passed by the Scottish Government that reforms the law on religion in schools. What does it say? Why is it still insufficient? And why is it unlikely to be the end of the matter? My new blog post explores these questions. Links in reply
A flawless performance of the legal drama of our generation. ‘Prima Facie’ at the New Theatre in Cardiff was sensational. An awesome script dealing with an important topic brilliantly performed and staged. For further thoughts see my post on Instagram: www.instagram.com/p/DUscUpEDL1...
Worrying findings from the Humanist Society Scotland about religion in Scottish schools. Difficult to see this as anything other than the non human rights compliant ‘indoctrination’ spoken about by the Supreme Court recently.
As the Prime Minister (at time of writing), calls for stronger powers for the Charity Commission to shut down extremist charities, my new blog post ponders whether it’s time to reform charity law on religion: sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2026/02/09/r... or substack.com/@sandbergrla...
It’s difficult see how any guidance can make the current law on collective worship compliant with the recent Supreme Court decision that required religion in schools to be critical, pluralistic and objective. Legislative reform is required.
Following last year’s Supreme Court ruling, reform of the law on religion in schools is on its way to Northern Ireland and new guidance on collective worship promised in England.

As I predicted, the recent Supreme Court decision on religion in Northern Ireland is prompting changes across the UK. The National Secular Society report changes to guidance on worship in England are on their way.
I make four observations in my latest blog post.
There is a clear need for the full report on this to be published since the reported conclusions do not make sense given what has been reported about the facts. Stronger safeguards may well be necessary.
New blog post on the breaking news that that reform of the law on religious education and collective worship in Northern Ireland has been announced, following the recent Supreme Court case.

My new article has now been published in the journal ‘Family Law’. It looks at developments concerning wedding law reform and argues that reform must include the recognition of independent celebrants. Email me - SandbergR@cf.ac.uk - if you’d like a copy of the PDF.

New Blog Post: Imam Sentenced for Underage Religious Marriage
The new offence of carrying out conduct for the purpose of causing someone under the age of 18 to enter into a marriage applies to unregistered religious marriages.

On the recent Supreme Court judgment (concerning religion in a school in Northern Ireland) and its implications, see sandbergrlaw.wordpress.com/2025/11/20/n...
It would be useful to see the results of the council’s fact finding exercise here because the allegations amount to what the Supreme Court recently called indoctrination. More evidence that our laws on religion in school are not fit for purpose.
A great blog post by Miranda Ash on why independent celebrants must be included in upcoming wedding reform:

Evidence of the need for marriage law reform in England and Wales where humanists cannot conduct legally binding marriages ⬇️
New reforms to wedding law are a vital opportunity to create an inclusive system that respects freedom of religion and belief in all its forms.
That's why Sophie Easton argues that those reforms must include independent celebrants👇
