Seven Dreams - long out of print, impossibly rare; five of the seven pieces in it were published in Andrei Codrescu’s Exquisite Corpse; all seven were bravely translated and published in a Russian anthology that probably got somebody killed
Likewise, my grandfather who escaped death at the hands of the Japanese occupiers was my dad's father. My ah gong was a hardworking lorry driver who ferried goods back and forth.
My other grandfather (mum's dad) was a Shanghainese tailor.

My grandfather was caught by the Japanese during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore (Sook Ching). He pretended to be dumb, frustrated the interrogators and was let go with a big brand on his back.
(Sook Ching Massacre is still a scar in our history)
