What weโve launched today is the first step for how weโre going to evolve verification.
The initial set of trusted verifiers includes news orgs whoโve agreed to take on the task of verification for their journalists. In the future, this set will expand, as well as how apps can choose to use them.

The flip side is these volunteers also control the most popular destinations in the app
A healthy form of checks & balances in my opinion.
