Poet (T.D. Walker, most recently Parallax/Aqueduct Press), cozy mystery author (Tammy D. Walker), and radio enthusiast (KI5ODE). Focusing on being a creative human in 2026 (so more of the same as ever) even though my latest book is about AI....

Regarding antennas, I've only used long wire (with radios that won't be overloaded by external antennas), which works fine for most purposes. That said, another great resource is The SWLing Post, which has info about antennas here: swling.com/blog/tag/ant...

Books on "how to" I'll look back in my library for. In the meantime, for general how to, if YouTube is an option for you, I highly recommend OfficialSWLchannel. Here's his playlist for how to get started: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMQK..., which includes info on bands, etc.

Um, do creeks count? It was creeks mostly where I was from originally. Now it's the Trinity River, though I get to see the North Platte quite a bit too

Are you looking for a book of frequencies or more of a general how to guide?

Okay, thanks for the vote of confidence on my, um, experimental speculative poems about niche modes of communication, I guess? But tbh I'm reading this as 2026 is the year I move to the country (gardens! antenna towers! no leaf blowers!). That said, I am not clever nor fast enough to GOAT, so.... ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ

And honestly, if I had more outdoor space in need of perennials, said space would soon be occupied by more Texas purple sage. Because that plant is absolutely beautiful (and full of happy bees).

Also just read that wintergreen does well as an indoor small tree, so this might be in the works along with a couple citrus. I'm in USDA Zone 8, so outside could be a possibility, though given that wintergreen likes more consistent moisture, I'd be hesitant to plant it outdoors.

I am always genuinely excited for seed catalog season each year. Even after I realize that I don't have enough space, time, or full sun for just about anything, haha. I do buy some seeds and hope, though. Anyone have favorite seed catalogs? Mostly it's PDF for me these days. Mail is more delightful.

My attempts at recording audio books/shortwave radio poetry programs have been thwarted this fall (and now winter, I guess, ugh) by pollen and various contagions, so I think I'm just going to have to run with sounding bad as a way of being more visibly (or audibly?) human ๐Ÿคฃ

Performance art? Making a statement about how connected we are to our phones (there are three), how we elevate them (on a tray, to emphasize their value) and thus how disconnected we become from nature (rain)?

I so appreciate the fact that Ubrelvy exists, but the whole foil-related gymnastics one is instructed to do to open the packet is kind of out of my skill set when I've got a migraine? Anyway, bread knife for the win. (Don't ask.) Got the pill out, yay. So that's been my morning. How are you?

Go Hoston Rangers! As a native Hostornian who now lives in DFW, I can appreciate the fact that the logo is the same as both the Texas Rangers and the Logeles Dodgers? Yay? I do appreciate the fact that it looks like the Gemstertron 5000 just kinda gave up there at the end, though

Also, I really need to go find the Cherry Bakewell Brew because that sounds even more fantastic.

Yorkshire Tea's Biscuit Brew was good. The Caramelized Biscuit Brew is fantastic. (And this is coming from someone who doesn't usually like flavored tea.) So anyway, thanks to the good folks at Taylors of Harrogate for making the load-bearing caffeine fueling me right now so very delicious

Whoa, I'm not so sure about 2026 when the pantone oracle picks the color I hear right before the migraine makes my entire left side go numb and I can't language for a while until it passes but no this will be okay (haven't had one of those in a while, thank you modern medicine, but still)

Again, this is all just me thinking about my own work, my goals for myself. This is not prescriptive. And it's about what I want for my work and, ultimately, what I want for my readers. As much as I love crafting the poems and stories, what's the point if they're disconnected from other people?

05.12.2025 13:00 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And this is true for both my poems and my genre fiction. Yes, I've written highly researched, meticulously crafted, award winning poems, >and< I write cozy mystery. But still, those mysteries are just as much a way for me to think about larger questions of communication and connection as the poems

05.12.2025 12:54 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

has to be viewed through "Do I want to write about this?" and "Would it be meaningful to myself and others if I write about this?" If it's not worth my time to write about, to think deeply about, to >feel< something about, then why should I assume my readers will care about the work?

05.12.2025 12:51 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

activity is thinking about what's important and what I connect to as a person and what my readers will likely connect to. I don't come to art for just entertainment (again, YMMV)--I want to know that the writer's subject is something they've been at least somewhat affected by. So, long list of ideas

1.) Continued full commitment to no use of AI for any part of the process. I know some writers use AI to generate ideas for writing, which for me, isn't a problem. So this is my own experience; YMMV. I have >far< more ideas than I could ever write. And part of the "being human" process in creative

Working on a direction* for future writing, a thread: 1.) continued full commitment to no use of AI for any part of the process, 2.) all my publications have at least one human gatekeeper, and 3.) more lived experience in my work.

* by direction, do I mean manifesto? Maybe?

Okay, lumberjack appears to be gone, leaf blowers are back, and when they're back it's time to grade again, I guess

For clarity: I have never actually been fashionable like that. Or fashionable in any other way that can be deemed fashionable. Flannel shirts do make up a good percentage of my wardrobe, though. A very large percentage. Like, basically, anything that is not a crew neck t-shirt? Flannel. It's flannel

01.12.2025 20:00 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Granted, we're having actual flannel shirt weather today, unlike later this week when we might have something between aspirational flannel shirt weather (cool but not really) and decorative flannel shirt weather (it's 80, I'm tying this around my shoulders because I'm fashionable like that*)

Today in suburbia: attempting to grade to the chorus of leaf blowers vs attempting to (and giving up on) grading while some guy goes at a stump with an axe across the street.... We don't often get lumberjacks around here, but it is December, and, um, no, wait, that doesn't follow either
