A book cover for my next book entitled "little violence" it is a queer Noir romance set in the Southern United States, about the difference between secrets and lies, lust and love, and how things worth dying for are also worth killing for, It is a story of obscured and partial truths. The cover is a plume of billowing white smoke, The title is written in stark letters filling the frame, smokey grey and partially hidden by plumes of smoke. The tagline ' a queer southern romance' and my name 'lauren jane k' are more visible. The cover has a faint pink undertone, a little blush of innocence it most certainly does not deserve. In the sweltering heat of a Savannah summer, a missing Civil War-era photo album sets two strangers on a collision course of danger, desire, and obsession. Brock Charlestonβa private investigator with a penchant for finding what shouldnβt existβis hired to recover the photo album after its seller is brutally murdered. The deeper he digs into Savannahβs underground erotic world, the more the whispers start pointing toward one unlikely witness: Ronnie Barbarian, a queer tattooed cellist grieving her grandmotherβ and hiding a past she refuses to name. Ronnie wants nothing to do with Brock or the violent world circling around her. Brock wants nothing to do with the sharp, magnetic pull he feels toward her. But when a second threat emerges, the two are forced together in a collision of grief, heat, and unraveling secrets. Desire turns dangerous. Trust turns intimate. And the albumβif it exists at allβmay be worth killing for. But the hardest thing for Brock will be confronting the one thing heβs never risked: wanting something for himself.

It's very weird to me how many young white people think violently doubling down on the cruelty of the status quo is somehow "transgressive"
A crowded silhouette forest spilling out of the foreground, black pines and palms filling almost the entire image given shape only by the smallest scraps of tender blue and blush pink evening sunset.
A graceful arc of palm leaves in bold black shadow carves dark lines our of a darkening blue sky.
some beautiful things about the last few days have been loving my partner with my whole heart and long evening walks in warm weather under huge sky

It's a mess - the photographers face feminine and eyes closed and maybe it's mid-swoon Like after a kiss and maybe it's eyes closed in a dream and maybe it's face half tilted back and pleasure but it's entirely impossible to know because their entire face is obscured by elastic bands twisting making skin and lips purple and wound over and over with strands of pearls, pearls stuffed in their mouth and held there, all hanging pink and pale and shimmering and not beautiful. Not peaceful. almost grotesque.
The photographer in a pale bodysuit waste wrapped in thick elastic bands, their body in the foreground before a bed and a wall with a strange shape, strange angles. They are flooded in even light, their face flushed red blood trapped behind elastic bands, pooling in their cheeks and around their mouth and it's hard to see because wrapped and wound around the elastic bands are pearls, pearl stuffed in their mouth, spilling out of them, their body bent over so slightly forward as though to vomit.
Everything you love drips out of me
.
And it's all pearls - A feminine torso in a plae bodysuit, long thighs and narrow waist compressed with thick elastic bands wound around with pearls in cream and white and pale pink to create a thigh harness that presses into the plump of their skin. The light is even and soft, their skin tender pink.
A femme person sitting on a bed with black sheets heaps of white lace. Their knees are spread and deeply embossed with the red moats left form kneeling hard on large pearls. Pearls wrap around their waist and thighs and shoulders, tangled in their hair. They wear black lipstick, and their gaze, fixed, looks into nothing.
The world is both beautiful and deadly, isn't it?

You have infinitely more in common with everyone brutalized by a government than you do with any government
Hey that's my book ..
I promise you this with my whole entire heart - people who do things like fall in love or experience embodied pleasure free of shame or feel deep reciprocal intimacy - don't do fucking dehumanization.
It's a dystopian nightmare and thank you, we are doing our best.
As soon as I can I'll not shut up about it, I promise π€
It's happening to me and my partner, I'm working on trying to contact media and also have legal representation. I can't share any documents during an ongoing investigation.

in the mood to put someone on their kneesβ¦
A black and white photo of a reclining feminine body, resting on their hip. One leg slightly bent and gently draped on the rise of their hip and gentle fall of their thigh. The photo is softly textured, a blur in the foreground obscures the lace they lie upon. They touch themselves as gently as the light. Around their waist is a black cable, and a steel lock around a bolt holding the chastity belt against their body, tight, touching them harder than the light.
A colour photo, the same image but full of warm orange tones. The color in the image makes their skin look warmer and more touchable, and makes the black and steel of the belt look harder, makes the places where it sinks into their flesh more obvious.
You have to let yourself be moved
