A potential point of discussion for political/media/industry/diplomatic/kitchen table/whatever debate here. Likely to be relevant to most things. Evidence is pretty compelling. But whoโs to say really. Carry on.

The triple sub is fine to expedite because it leaves two subs and two sub windows, so thereโs no disadvantage in not waiting until HT to use the free window.

Several FIFPRO and FIFPRO Asia/Oceania events are coming to New South Wales next week!
The state will become a hub for player advocacy, staff development and women's football leadership, coinciding with the 2026 AFC Women's Asian Cup.
Very impressive. Iโd also say they deserve to be paid something for this performance/tournament, but will probably be in the 8 teams that miss out on prize money.
50k fans turn up for the Matildas, but only a couple of thousand for the A-League Women? ๐ค

the courage and spirit of the Iranian players to do anything at all tonight, with so much chaos and uncertainty unfolding back home, is just remarkable. they should be so, so proud. #KORvIRN #AFCWAC
there are heaps of Matildas-focused #AFCWAC previews out there, but few of them dive into the other huge stories & sub-plots threaded throughout the tournament.
so, with Australia covered everywhere else, here are five other storylines to keep an eye on.

Big new FIFPRO Asia report out today ahead of the Women's Asian Cup.
WAC26 will see the same great scenes as Women's World Cup 2023, but unless AFC acts, two thirds of players will play for free.
The total prize pool for WAC26 is less than what the bottom team at the Women's World Cup received.
The Sermon on the Mount, by Beryl Lewis, before 1965, ๐ธ by @ScottStrazzante
exclusive: the AFC won't increase prize money for this year's Women's Asian Cup despite repeated pleas from players. a public campaign is being planned calling attention to what is now the lowest-paying major women's tournament in the world.

In Ready for Takeoff, the PFA observed that the global pie was more or less doubling each year. Itโs happened again.
Failing to make the ALW fully professional is preventing it from increasing its share of this growing pie. Already, 5% of the total is around $2m AUD - a realistic share for ALW.

FIFA transfer data are out for 2025 and some notable takeaways on the womenโs side: global growth of 83% over 2024 and Australia again got 1% of the global pie.
last year, I was introduced to a mysterious American man who wanted to know more about the #ALeagueWomen and women's football in Australia.
as it turns out, he represented an overseas consortium looking to expand their portfolio here.
so what happened next?

It was done intentionally back of the envelope for the doc because specifics need to be worked through in collective bargaining.
The $1m in the doc was required additional spend over and above current average investment per club for full pro, including players (+$600k) and assumed for staff and ops (+$400k).
To calculate total player payments we just said $60k per player as a simple indicative figure.
