Could we pls let ppl work from home if they are able to do the job from there. Traffic in this last wk or two has become absolutely chaotic with hrs of delay, and it's partly due to employers forcing staff back to the office. #SpeirGorm @news.rte.ie @virginmedianews.bsky.social @todayfm.bsky.social

This argues that we should not give away our creative industries' output to US tech companies.
It seems obvious when you say it, doesn't it.

A brown penguin chick of some kind. It looks very much like a man in a suit. It is bedraggled and miserable

RTB still can’t compel landlords to lower rent if investigators spot illegal hikes
Changes to make it possible were to be included in a new law, when first announced. But they were dropped.

it's sad the the 'before' picture is so commonplace (and so accepted as normal) in ireland
if they were displayed the other way around, you would think something cataclysmic had happened

Malala Yousafzai ‹ @Malala • 1h
They were girls who went to school to learn, with hopes and dreams for their future. Today, their lives were brutally cut short.
X
I am heartbroken and appalled by the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, including reports that a girls' school in southern Iran was hit, resulting in the injury and death of many girls. The killing of civilians, especially children, is unconscionable, and I condemn it unequivocally.
My heart is with the children, families and communities affected by escalation across the region. I stand firmly against violence and the targeting of schools and civilians. I call for the escalation of violence across the region to end.
Justice and accountability must follow. All states and parties must uphold their obligations under international law to protect civilians and safeguard schools.
Every child deserves to live and learn in peace.

'Still life with Daffodils.' (1890) Although an established portrait painter by the time he made this work, John Singer Sargent had a growing preoccupation with still-lifes; the forms of the flowers emphasizes the sense of joy he derived from painting them. #StDavidsDay2026

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.
Sahar Delijani, Iranian author
I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.
I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

Poem The Rainmakers by Francis Harvey
Francis Harvey meditates on hope, futility, and the human impulse to intervene in forces beyond our control.
The act of calling down rain becomes something larger than weather. It’s about standing beneath an empty sky and refusing despair.

The Victorian critic and artist John Ruskin believed all beauty comes from nature. Look closely at his painting of a Bleinheim Orange apple (1873), and you'll see how Ruskin's lighting and shadow animate and dramatise a simple object.

CU signs $2M OpenAI deal for ChatGPT access
Students and faculty will gain access to ChatGPT Edu starting in March under a three-year deal.
My employer, Univ. Colorado will pay OpenAI $2M/year under the banner of “equity”. That’s 54 full scholarships / year. Plus, our IT will be able to read our chatGPT logs, and our chats can be requested under public records law. No thanks. Surveillance is not equity
