Even if the software used was within the rules, the fact that it wasn't the specific version checked by officials is the fuck-up.
This has actually been really educational, as I've today learned the difference between "homologated", as in the verb of being checked and certified, and "legal". I think I assumed they were synonymous but I guess the key here is what version of the software was given the OK by officials.
It will be very interesting to see what happens when you add Martin into that mix.

As a software person I'd actually be quite interested to know the details of what made it illegal and what they would have needed to have done to make it legal.

Here is the Aprilia RS-GP without the front bottom fairing fitted. You can see the two large exhaust headers, with a balance pipe just ahead of the fairing The bottom radiator is the oil cooler. You can see the pipes running too and from the cooler, and what looks like an oil filter. The fact that there is duct tape on the oil cooler is a sign of how unseasonably cool it was at Sepang
