I've been waiting for this take... the US auto industry is once again a wobbly domino, just waiting for the emerging energy shock to send it into yet another terminal tailspin
President Zelenskyy quietly visited the fortress cities of free Donetsk.
He warned Russia has not given up and is planning a new spring offensive to yet again try to steal all of Donetsk.
Contrast the leaders of Ukraine and Russia.
You'd get more sense interviewing an AI chatbot.
It's just an odometer reading when you get your car tested: the garage fills in an online form and then you pay.
He's going to nuke them.

"I have seen this intellectual death close at hand. I had invitations to give a number of talks or take part in Pentagon sponsored conferences pulled back in the last year. People are scared."
Pretty difficult to refute a single thing in this perfect assessment of where the f**k we are, from @iandunt.bsky.social:
Fascinating. I've never seen someone's brain short-circuit before.
I see Farage is off to Mar-a-Lago to talk down Britain and suck up to Trump.
There's nothing patriotic about cheering on a foreign leader whose illegal war is sending British families’ energy bills through the roof.
Not quite sure what it will take for MAGA to see Putin as an enemy.
Apple didn't write this story.
Their justification for war is even more pathetic than the "I shot the baby because it was making a move to throw a grenade" My Lai justification.

Six days on, a New York Times investigation concludes that the US bombed the school.
175 are dead, 150+ of whom are schoolgirls aged 7-12.
The My Lai massacre for our generation.
The Hague - and Hell - awaits.
The official White House X account on Wednesday posted 'Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue, a minute-long video that began with the depiction of a game involving "mass guided bombs". It then showed images of US fighter jets taking off from aircraft carriers and missiles being launched from the desert striking their targets, appearing to equate the real footage with the video game.
One begins with the camera facing a stealth B-2 bomber in intense, dark lighting. Others show Iranian military targets in crosshairs before a strike sets them ablaze. Stahl said the military is "fetishising the weapons themselves — all the Top Gun-inspired scenes of backlit fighter jets rocketing off carrier decks"
The first gulf war in the early 90s was made for TV. This war may be the first one shallow and idiotic enough to be made for social media.

Yes.
If you’re raiding a Quaker workshop, you really should stop and ask yourself who the bad guys are in this situation.
On the one hand, a clearly deranged lunatic in the White House starting a dangerous illegal war on Iran with already-serious repercussions for the region and world...
Or having a pop at Keir Starmer.
You just knew which side the Right would come down on.
The future that was stolen vs the future we got
I remember when ‘Brexit Means Brexit’ became a way for silly people to insist that they supported something they could neither justify nor explain. Obviously the context is very different, but something similar is already happening with the ‘war’ in Iran. And it’s mostly the same people doing it.
a complicated thing about terror attacks on the US is that most of our actually-important sites (Pentagon, the White House, etc) are designed hardened or in a dense environment where attacks are hard. It's not like the President decamps to an unsecurable beach resort where people can just walk in.
My lord! The frigate the US submarine torpedoed, the one the White House has been bragging about, was unarmed and headed home from an international naval exercise, hosted by India, that the US pulled out of at the last minute! www.military.com/daily-news/i...
It’s almost like he’s hoping for it so that he can have an excuse to use “emergency powers”
one thing that’s changed in the House (it started with the Tea Party when some real freaks started getting elected) is that there’s less cross-aisle camaraderie because people across the aisle are the kind of people you cross the street to avoid
the Senate needs to learn this lesson
France created an unprecedented bureaucracy to continuously record all births, marriages and deaths in the territory. Later expanded to continuously maintained lists of all military-age male citizens, in order to allow conscription in any numbers required.
