I took on a tiny client who has a site in Wix. They don’t have the budget to migrate it.
The platform is convoluted and terrible to use. It’s cemented in my mind as the worst website builder. Even Squarespace is better.
I’m considering offering free migration so I never have to touch it again.

The way I usually see this implemented is with two inputs areas: a text input and a drop zone. Here’s a screenshot of a platform I use as an example.

I know it’s cliche but giving my brain a break really helps to solve problems and think about things differently. My mind feels so quiet post ceramics! But it’s the same thing I get after the gym. So I think it can happen in a lot of different ways. I hope you find something that works for you!

I will absolutely eat anything Travis Baldree makes. I’m so glad we get more of these books.

I’m on my fourth semester of ceramics and so stoked about my progress. Two years ago, I couldn’t center to save my life. Now I’ve thrown, trimmed, and added pulled handles to six mugs in the span of 3 classes! It’s so gratifying to have a physical hobby to give my brain a break from screens.

This is how I feel about Stardew Valley. I paid ConcernedApe $14 (!!!!) once and he just keeps putting out magic and not charging for it. I’ve started to just buy it on every platform I can because I want to support him.

I’m at that stage in my app dev where all I do is work on it and if I’m not working on it I want to be working on it.
But I know that working steady is better than working obsessively (learned that lesson!).
I guess that means it’s time to log off and play Skyrim for the night. 🤷🏽♀️ #buildinpublic

When I’m working on client work I ask myself “what’s the 1 thing that would keep me at my desk late if I didn’t finish today” and I do that first.
It’s not perfect. Sometimes I have too much client work and have to scrap the biz time. But this loose time blocking system is working well so far!

Here’s how I’ve broken down my day:
- 1hr business time (could be anything from working on my website to writing stuff online)
- 30m communications/organization/ops stuff
- the rest of the day is client work
- as part of my daily wrap up, I also do 30 more minutes of comms/organizing/ops

This is fantastic! It’s a great example of how making something accessible is good for everyone. The alt text is great for screen readers and anyone else who might want more granular data. Good work!

Rebranding a national charity
Changing perceptions of a household charity name
My favorite thing to come out of the Parkinson’s UK rebrand is the fact that Red Stone created a custom typeface called Parkinsans! ParkinSANS! And it’s available on Google fonts. The brand is cool too. But I’m really here for the puns.

I will generally try to figure something out but sometimes it’s hard to tell if I’m stuck because it’s challenging or if I’m stuck because there’s a bug/poor design. If it’s bad, I ask my husband to look up the solution then give me a vague hint only for the next step.

Thanks for the tip! I’m still learning backend and only found a bit of docs on functions. Are you using them as a way to manipulate data similar to (or in addition to) to the REST api? Would you mind sharing a use case?

So nice to see you here! For what it’s worth, this space has felt much nicer, kinder, and more peaceful than other platforms.
This teapot is beautiful!
PS I think about your ruffles almost every time I’m at the wheel. Your work inspires me to try new things and play more!

That’s hard! Are you designing separately (like on paper or in Figma) and then building? Or just going straight to building? Post your WIP! I’m sure folks around here (myself included) would be happy help you out.

Hey no reason not to try 🤷🏽♀️ if anything it might help you validate your idea. Then you can determine if it’s worth reprioritizing your time or if it’s a Someday Maybe kind of idea.

Do you ever use a tool that’s so nice it actually brings you joy?
I’m building an app to manage fiscal sponsorships and am moving the DB to Supabase. It’s just so easy to use, has every feature I could possibly need, and even looks nice! It makes migrating so much more pleasant. #buildinpublic

Looks great so far! Nice and clean but not cold or boring. Will you be putting any work on your website? Or is the primary purpose to link people out to your various platforms?

I read Fourth Wing and all I could think was “is the smut in the room with us?”. Needless to say, I did not pick up the second book.

I’ve tried to do this so many times. But for some reason not hearing the game music takes me out of it. Like playing Skyrim while listening to American Football just doesn’t quite hit the same. Maybe I should try playing Skyrim and listening to sea shanties or something.

Completely agree with this! Getting clients is about trust. And when you don’t have a history of work to prove you’re trustworthy, you have to rely on the people who know and trust you in your regular life.

I was a graphic designer before I became a developer so I’m sure it’s just the design part of my brain saying “hey don’t forget about me!”

I also like to use Figjam for white boarding information I need to share with others.
I used Obsidian for about a year but I couldn’t quite get it to feel natural so I’m back in Notion for all of my other note taking.

I like to use physical note cards when I’m sorting out problems, especially code based ones where I need a mental model of a process. The small space helps me think systematically:
- Note card 1 = possible solution 1
- Doesn’t work?
- Grab note card 2 for possible solution 2
And so on…

Im currently reading the 2nd book in the Between Earth and Sky series. Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse. And I am absolutely eating this series up.
I love that it’s a fantasy loosely set in pre-Colombian americas rather than a vague European-like land.
