Ann Walker helped the needy in Lightcliffe each year around Xmas during her life as well as leaving a legacy in her will that continued to be paid out until the 1970's.

Ann Walker left £10 to the people of Lightcliffe at Xmas in her will - enough personal estate was invested in consolidated 3% annuities (“consols”) to generate an annual return of £10. Ten pounds is 3% of 333 pounds, 6 shillings and 8 pence, and the actual receipt is below. ⬇️
If old widow Taylor of Lightcliffe be living be so good and give her three shillings & Betty Hodgson of Hipperholme five shillings at Xmas. Your letters are very satisfactory, go on, fearlessly do your duty, & bear in mind that "To the faithful reward is sure". Ann Walker.

Helping others at Christmas was always on Ann Walker's mind. Not only did she leave £10 a year to the people of Lightcliffe to be given out on Xmas Day, but she sent home letters from her travels to make sure her tenants and ex-servants were taken care of....1/2
