It's also just kind of depressingly replicating industry gender norms while (i think sincerely!) trying to be celebratory.

Paradise Kiss's greatness comes in no small part from being firmly centered on Yukari, and how part of being a model is being seen as replaceable, a vessel for the artist and not contributing to the art. Not that you can't do that with a male designer lead but it's not inherently in focus.
On the one hand i read some of this and it's not bad at all, and the trailer is very pretty
On the other i am getting real sick of shonen titles about fashion/makeup where the male protag is the artist and the female model is the Muse. It's an otherizing position to start from that frustrates me

I've always hated the fandom need to find the "true" ending of Silent Hill 2 when the game is pretty clear--James' past is set, but his future depends on his actions. He can drown in his crimes, atone, repeat them. He can go to space and make out with Harry Mason. These are all equally valid.
