public media funding is always under threat β but now Elon Musk is targeting NPR and PBS for budget cuts. @benmullin.bsky.social and I found out how stations are preparing: www.nytimes.com/2024/12/27/b...
It's the first day of winter break, which means I'm frantically cleaning the house so I can spend the rest of the holidays in peace!
Terrible play calling. Please please please get this fixed for the #CFP @pennstatefball.bsky.social
Today's lesson discusses the American health care system for those in countries where their system provides care for free or reasonable fees. π
B1G refs are ridiculous
Conspiracy time! Refs need Oregon to win so conference can justify adding 4 west coast teams
Oregon wins championship, #B1G gets prestige over SEC
Lots of @pennstatefball.bsky.social mistakes? Yes. But also a lot of missed calls
#pennstate what's with all the crazy mistakes?? Chill out! #B1GChampionship
Day 2 post-Thanksgiving break: a little more hectic, but manageable. I don't like this upwards trend!
Those results are indicative of a broader problem. Kids may be learning basic literacy, but βtheyβre not reading in the ways that they need to read in order to be prepared for the tasks of learning and critical thinking,β Snow said. And a decline in those critical thinking skills has big implications not just for young people today, but for society as a whole.
Americaβs literacy crisis isnβt what you think: "Kids may be learning basic literacy, but 'theyβre not reading in the ways that they need to read in order to be prepared for the tasks of learning and critical thinking...'

Wow, what a dream! We don't have subs in my school. Grade level teachers split the coverage load
Hey #EduSky! Any education podcast recommendations out there? I'm an elementary grade and special education teacher/coordinator, but will take a listen to anything! Thanks in advance!
Today was surprisingly calm, I chalk it up to kids still being sleepy #postthanksgivinglull
100% agreed. I feel like there's a switch that turns on that makes people forget their teacher experiences once they become leaders.
Respect is definitely earned!
A lot of new ideas (which is great!), but also wanting to reinvent the wheel when systems already work. Another pain point is lack of transparency especially for veteran teachers (4+ years) as to why certain initiatives are being pushed.
Also new to leading a whole staff, growing pains there
I taught for 9 years before taking a 2 year break from teaching to do an office job. I chose to come back this year to my old school, and while staff morale is low (new leadership team), it's the kids that keep me going.
All that to say, I'm really enjoying my break and I'm glad that you are too!

Cuts to education mean students with mild/moderate intellectual delays end up with no support for learning,
no Ed Assistant support,
no specialized learning program
β¦ which results in these students learning less and less each year
Breaks my teacher soulβΉοΈ
Agreed! Lowering the bar for students is an injustice. Students can achieve any goal with the proper supports, and high expectations sets them up to succeed exponentially!
I've done multisensory phonemic exercises to build automaticity when it comes to decoding tricky words (not as quick, but the it's been paying off)
For math story problem, breaking it up into sentences and visualizing what's happening has been okay, but our gaps have mostly been in decoding

"Moreover, it was Clinton who unleashed globalisation, tacitly believing in a trickle-down economics that would ultimately benefit everyone.
The only real difference between Democrats and Republicans on this score is that Democrats claimed to feel the pain of those who were losing out."
As voucher costs explode and state revenues decrease, Arizona has very few options to balance the budget, which leaves slashing programs and services as the only viable tool in a depleted toolbox.β 2 Privatization, in other words, begets more privatization.β

I teach SpEd but are around a lot of 3rd and 4th graders. There's no intrinsic motivation to do well in school and show resilience with new content. If they don't understand it the first time, they don't bother trying. It's so sad to see because they have so much potential!!
I taught both 6-8 history/social studies and 3rd grade. I think I enjoy 3rd the most because they're almost middle schoolers but not quite, and they're so excited to learn new content and just be in school in general!
Tomorrow's Monday hits different for two reasons:
1) the upcoming Thanksgiving break means it'll be a two-day school week
2) one month until Winter Break!
New from our team: What might happen if the Education Department were closed? A look at the impacts on early ed, K12 and higher ed: hechingerreport.org/what-might-h...
Great read to learn about what's at stake and the possible changes upcoming for SpEd programs across the country, as well as what questions still remain
Yay! Great starter pack for #EduNerds like me. #EduSky
Worth the read!
