It's always great fun to contribute to the @superjumpmagazine.com game of the year article. π
I went with The Hundred Line because I'm a big old dork for any kind of branching narrative, and that game had so many different story paths that it's essentially a sprawling flowchart.
A sassy looking Houndoom.
This takes me back. New PokΓ©mon Snap was great! My personal best pic was this very irate Houndoom.
Don't forget about Lakitu. Autistic king right here. βοΈ
I've covered many board games writing for @wargamer.com and JISOGI by @esperbgs.bsky.social may be the most thought provoking.
You're running an anime studio and the game spares no expense demonstrating the stress, passion, and pain that goes into creating art.

This is a really fun idea. I'm team Diamond Weapon all the way for the green deck. π
You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test
Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)
Good tech.
Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)
Bad tech.
Had a great time recording some audio for @ryan.wubrgsky.org's podcast @myths-unbound-pod.bsky.social. Listen in if you want a deep dive into some of the inspiration that Magic: the Gathering takes from real life folklore. π
What's your favorite song?
One of the things I love about being a tabletop gaming journalist is writing articles with headlines that are just buck wild like this. π

I feel like I knocked it all down with this Garland deck tech. π

Great analysis Josh. :)
I always find it weird how so many of the Avatar commanders are just kids though.
Azula's got to be the most powerful 14 year old in the multiverse. π
So I'm feeling a little called out by my Spotify Wrapped this year. π
Thanks to @macreadymusings.bsky.social for a thoughtful write up of my family card game, Frog Faire, in @wargamer.com πΈ

You're very welcome Nicole. :) If you ever decide to get the game published or crowdfunded I'll be first in line to grab a copy.
the covers of Wyrd Science issues 3-7 laid out on a gradient landscape next to the caption WIN THE LOT!
it hasn't helped sell any mags but it appears our nonsense on here has just pushed our account over 5K 'followers', so let's embrace that as some kind of achievement!
Like & repost this to be in with a chance to win every in-print issue of Wyrd Science & a t-shirt of your choice*
I've been interviewing some pretty awesome folks lately. :) Here's a piece where I talk with D&D historian @shannonappelcline.bsky.social about the history of the game, and its place within the modern TTRPG scene.

Is your starter PokΓ©mon alright?
Hei Bai's unique selling point is that they get stronger when you sacrifice creatures, so try to include lots of small creatures that can pump the panda up like Siege Veteran, Luminarch Aspirant, and Tempered Veteran.
Good luck. :)
Since Hei Bai doesn't have any evasive key words, I recommend cards that can grant it flying, trample, or menace like Wing It, Angelic Destiny, or Demonic Embrace. All That Glitters is also great in Voltron deck because of how well it scales when you've got lots of auras and equipment in play.(2/3)
Hey Patrick, glad you liked the article. :)
A Voltron deck is one that makes the commander massive using auras, equipment, counters etc.
In Hei Bai's case you'll want cards that grant them +1/+1 counters to take advantage of the fact that their counters move onto another creature if they die.(1/3)
Here's my interview with Takuma Okada (@noroadhome.itch.io), the designer of Stewpot, as well as a loads of other great indie TTRPGs.
Takuma discusses their creative process and the themes of identity, belonging, and exploration that recur in their work.
Strong recommend Gnosia.
It's a single player social deduction game that tells a pretty great story about being trapped in a time loop.
It's also wonderfully and unreservedly gay.

Here's a piece that means a lot to me. I spoke to @andrewgillis.bsky.social to discuss Girl By Moonlight, their Magical Girl RPG (published by @evilhat.bsky.social). The game is full of magic, heartbreak, and bittersweet hope.
Massive thanks to @wyrdscience.bsky.social for publishing this.
Oh my goodness, I loved Darren Shan's books when I was growing up! They made a film adaptation of Cirque du Freak and I was so excited, but then it was absolutely terrible. π
Just published my first piece with @wargamer.com, all about the most Morbin' Magic: the Gathering card of all time. π

I'm a Cube guy. You get to design your own Limited format with all of your favourite cards, what's not to love? :)
Theros. I was a massive Greek mythology kid growing up and seeing Magic do its take on all of those tropes and characters was great. Heliod was such a jerk, but then Zeus was no saint either.
The gameplay of building up big Voltron creatures with Heroic was also great fun. :)
