I've written about how no one was ever supposed to finish Maniac Mansion in 4 hours, and how classic graphic adventures were intended to last you for weeks.

The Dark Rites of Arkham by @postmodernadv.bsky.social is a superb Lovecraftian point-and-click adventure from the creator of An English Haunting. It's spooky, fun, and packed with eldritch horrors.

I think you guys, who I love and respect and admire (and have lived with most of), have made a mistake here, and the right thing to do would be to own that mistake. It was a dick move. I've made SO many of those.
I'm not aware of times when I've pulled an inoffensive game out of obscurity to say it's bad, unless that game is objectionable. If I have, I don't think it was right.
And no, picking on a handful of games from 3,500 to say, "don't play these ones you weren't playing" isn't proving a service.
Just don't review it, I guess? I get sent many hundreds of codes a year, but can only review one human's worth of games.
Or at the very least, be constructive.
But to be clear, in this post I'm specifically talking about going and finding unknown games just to shit on them. As recently happened.
Negative reviews of promoted bad games is a vital part of the industry. Warn people off from something they're being tempted to spend their $70 on. Go for it.
Heck, highlight unknown but insidious or outwardly bigoted games. Condemn them.
But shitting on some harmless unknown indie? Fuck off.
Apropos of something: It has long been my position that using your platform to make people aware of a tiny indie game they've never heard of before in order to tell them it's shit is just indecent.
"Hey! See this thing you wouldn't have seen otherwise?! It's not worth knowing about!"
Heartbroken to announce that I got hit by the layoffs at Polygon today. It was an honor to work with the amazing team there.
If you're looking for a games/entertainment writer with a deep knowledge of everything from live-service shooters to horror titles to delightfully weird FMV games, hit me up!
For 2026 I've decided to become a flat-hollow-earther. Wish me luck in my new adventures.
I think his whole head is like that. They just missed a bit of orange paint today.
It's hard to argue.
I arrived four years late to @deanhall.bsky.social's Icarus, and I'm so glad I found it. This is my perfect survival sim.

Tukoni by @dream-operator.bsky.social is a work of astonishing beauty, being created by developers and artists living in Ukraine under constant attack from Russia. I spoke to them about crafting joy under so much horror.

Well, full anxiety attack later, I'll see how it is in the morning and maybe go to minor injuries if there are any concerns. Thank you.
Well, two things. One, it's the back of my hand, so no muscles to get hurt, and two, it doesn't hurt at all.

Personal news: I'm leaving my Editor-at-large role at Eurogamer & Gamer Network as part of new cuts. I last year approached my move to Eurogamer & VG247's skeletonization with reluctance, but I ultimately greatly enjoyed giving EG a go. But now after 10yrs & in difficult conditions, it's time to go.
Oh my god, this is just insane.
I'm just a font of great news of late: kotaku.com/burger-king-...
That's why I'm doing Buried Treasure!
Reviews of games that readers haven't already been hyped for do SO little traffic unless headlined really well, but also take up a huge amount of a writer's time. They're terrible economy for struggling sites.
Which is too sad.
This is horrible news. Sorry to everyone at my old haunts of Eurogamer and the rest of GN. (I haven't heard if RPS is affected.)
