Working on something small this week, just comparing some different animations for hitting a note. Still need some more practice with unity's particle system.

Hidden amongst the bushes, Gus the rat can be found offering the player a wide variety of powerful items.
(Just don't let his perceptive eyes fool you)

Working this weekend on overhauling the custom music in my game

I have nothing else to show this week so please accept one pixel art drawing of corgo from my game Cantale.

Working on the main menu and the character select screen in my rhythm-roguelike game Cantale.
Now like all good roguelike games, you can set your seed for different runs!

Just showing off a little animation for opening and closing the minimap in my game
#screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev
Probably 90% of my artistic ability lies in copy paste and Kritas default brushes, but at least I can make this wood background texture in a few minutes.

Happy #screenshotsaturday! Here is a WIP of my new title screen, still want to add a little bit of animation and tweak some colors. Stay tuned to find out what lurks on the island in my game Cantale ^_^

Added custom note colors last night! Now the player can pick one color and the game will automatically assign four contrasting tetradic colors for the notes and buttons. Sorry to anyone who really wants a rhythm game with only four bright pink buttons.

This was also the only time I have ever used recursion and had an actual reason to do so, look at me using my fancy computer science degree
Took me playing some other rhythm games to realize I somehow never even thought to give the player a grade for each battle they complete. So we have that now!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped me reach 100 followers! You guys all help me get a little bit closer to my dream of working on games full time, and I am excited to get to know more of you awesome folks in the bluesky gamedev space <3
Work in progress of the minimap button and so far so good (Pray for me its the first time I have had to deal with render textures or color formats)

This probably applies to a very niche community, but to anyone making rhythm games/anything very time based in unity DEFINITELY try to use dspTime instead of deltaTime. Makes it so much easier to then scale objects by the bpm of your song/beatmap.

Take a look at the inventory screen for my main character Jessie!

A very minor change but adding feedback when the player is holding a note helps a lot
#gamedev #indiedev #screenshotsaturday
Wish I got to add more this week but at least we now have a nifty little bar at the bottom of the screen that shows your song progress.

Update: the poison now poisons on hit

Added tooltips for items yesterday. Now if I can just get this to work with 999 of an item, I will call it good.

This is my kind of idea and Im glad that we share the same vision.
Finally adding customizable keybinds to my game which I should have learned how to do a while ago.
I feel like not many rhythm games let you do it, but now everyone gets to make their own control scheme, no matter how terrible it is.

No #gamedev updates today since im graduating from university tomorrow.
Wishing everyone the best of luck in their awesome looking games!
A friendly reminder to those showcasing your game to write the CORRECT controls for the player. Not making that mistake again (hopefully)

Been doing a lot this week adding controller support, updated map generation, and animations. Yet all i really have to show off is this battle start sign...

Thanks man! ๐
Im a solodev and would love to be added if there is still any space available! Sending good thoughts your way for making the starter pack <3
Being able to work on my game for school assignments is wonderful but having to actually justify my old janky map generation in 5 page paper format is hurting my soul.
#gamedev #solodev
I can only imagine how bad a complex animation graph would be. As if my own code wasn't enough of an eyesore beforehand.
I'm not sure how similar the process is in other game engines besides Unity, but are there people that actually enjoy trying to debug state machines?
Theres a reason I stay as far away from them as I can...

This #screenshotsaturday I wanted to share a couple of the other map locations that the player can find in my game Cantale.
