If RE9 turned into The World Ends With You but you were fighting a giant goo monster, we would all be kneeling out of respect, is what I’m trying to get at.

I think it’s disappointing because, like, it’s so close! It’s so close to being far and away the best of the modern REs. This one has themes and motifs and better through lines from the the other games in the series, not just good gameplay. But it doesn’t stick the landing

Requiem frequently calls back to other RE games—RE 2, RE4, 6 and 7, Village—but the Capcom game I thought about while finishing RE9 was Devil May Cry V, which has the same narrative arc but hits WAY harder because its stupid story is told through gameplay (especially the ending)

Enjoyed my time with RE9, but feel like the back 3rd misses the mark. Too much Leon stuff, not enough Grace stuff. It feels like the game wants to tell a “passing the torch” narrative but doesn’t stick the landing with the gameplay or pacing.

Really glad I played RE9 with Ink Ribbons on. Maybe one or two disheartening deaths but otherwise added some oppressive tension on the default difficulty. Highly recommended.

What’s the next iconic Capcom game mechanic that they should put into resident evil? First parries, then weapon sharpening…my vote is to give Jill Valentine a grappling hook arm that’s her wife

I know I’m very late to the party on RE9–I don’t pay attention to any of the pre release coverage—but it’s so funny that they added Monster Hunter weapon sharpening to this game.

It’s probably lots of different factors—but the biggest one is just that it feels easier right now for every player to play their character, to finish their items, to do their thing. Even in a complete stomp, you can still get those expensive items, and that’s fun, it feels like an accomplishment.

The best thing I can say about Deadlock is that, even though it has many of Dota 2’s high level gameplay systems (denials) + its own insane movement systems, it doesn’t feel nearly as oppressive and heartbreaking to play as Dota ever did.

Me losing one match of dota 2: “Throw me in the fucking bin, dude. I’m too stupid to play video games. I’m gonna play persona 3 with a real gun.”

Me losing for 8 hours straight in Deadlock: ”da patron is gonna make me da king of da big apple!”
