That is, can we adapt or apply some of Barthes' thinking to our present moment?
Related to (un)dead internet theory - which proposes that since something like 2016, online space has been dictated/curated primarily by bots and, latterly, AI?
Yes. I need to get down to see it.
Watched this Storyville doc last night. Don't quite know how the director managed to convince those involved to take part - let alone appear on screen. Tender rather than exploitative.

Is usage of 'Outwith' - 'outside; beyond' - on the rise? Like it.

If you're unfamiliar with the band, and like your garage rock old skool and danceable, it's worth checking them out.

Pretty sure I've had COVID, which I'm hoping is gone now. Like my ability to taste food and drink. I'm going to risk going out today to get/send a mother's day card - and maybe treat myself to a trip to the cinema. Aiming for The Secret Agent.
Dennis Prager once wrote a two-part op-ed advocating that wives should have sex with their husbands even when they don’t want to. Now his right-wing organization, PragerU, is partnering with the Trump Administration to educate the youth of America. newyorkermag.visitlink.me/zLNMgP

Very timely screening of Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis (2007) @ FACT in Liverpool tonight. An autobiographical coming of age tale, it provides a rare insight into Iran, beyond the narrow western perspective we all know. A great watch.

Prepare for ETERNAL WINTER
They were all disputing about the war, about what Thu would do next, what A-lo would do next, what the CWG would do next. "Why do you talk only in abstractions?" he inquired suddenly, wondering as he spoke why he was speaking, when he had resolved not to. "It is not names of countries, it is people killing each other. Why do the soldiers go? Why does a man go kill strangers?"
this passage from le guin's "the dispossessed" seems relevant

A delicately patterned Orange-tip butterfly clings to a vibrant bluebell, its intricately mottled green and white wings blending seamlessly with the foliage. The butterfly’s fuzzy body and slender antennae contrast against the smooth, curled petals of the bluebell, which droop gracefully on a slender stem. The soft-focus green background enhances the vivid hues of the butterfly and flower, capturing a fleeting moment of springtime beauty.
Nature lovers! We're on the lookout for a shiny new cover photo!

In some respects, it reads as a blueprint for Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive (2013).
But back to the film, adding to its cool is a soundtrack featuring Portishead and My Bloody Valentine.

It was, in-part, shot using a Pixelvision toy camera - to great effect I think!

Nadja film still
Watching Nadja (1994), which I haven't seen since or around its release. A self-consciously cool vampire film, it's exec produced by David Lynch (who has a cameo). Peter Fonda is Van Helsing! It's lo-fi and, as vampire films should be, great to look at.
