However, sometimes games, due to poor balance or structural issues, contain traps. If turn 1 gives players 6 options but 3 of those options lead to eventual, inevitable loss unless the other player also selects a trap option, that's just bad design. And it happens in games more often than you think!
When you reduce the possibility of epic fails in a game, you tend to also reduce the possibility of epic wins. I want my players to feel a wide gamut of emotions, and sometimes that means allowing them to step on a rake.
Glad to hear it and fair point! Would Ability Points be a more intuitive term?
Ran Gone to Gaia with the wonderful Paula and Steven after hours at Supercell HQ. They overcame the Goldmonger and, filled with confidence, challenged thr devious Hundredeyes. Tragically, their luck ran out and Paula's hero Claudia suffered a mortal wound ๐๐ฉ
Hey Calvin, thanks for checking it out! They are indeed AP, in the real game they'll be lighting shaped wood tokens but for now on Tabletopia they're those pink round fellows indeed. Let me know if you run into any other ambiguities ๐
And we're funded! Thanks everyone for supporting new games, its really cool of you ๐
If YOU are the person that gets us over the funding goal, I will compose a haiku about you โ๏ธ
We're at 96% funding! Would love your support to get us over the edge!
Had a great conversation with the illustrious @isaaconearth.bsky.social where we answer some follower questions about Gone to Gaia, link below if you want to check it out!
Wowow reached 3000 followers!
Yay we just crossed 2000 followers on GameFound! There's been a lot of momentum today and I'm not sure exactly why but pleased to see it!
Stacey has what is to me the definitive analysis of all this discourse on games and art:
Today when I was demoing, I met an excited boy that loved my game and regaled me with everything he did, and it was like getting to meet my past self. Sometimes I wonder if I should be doing something more practical and real world with my time. But not today ๐ค
When you're playing a game, you can become anyone, anything. You can be a brilliant general, or a hero that saves the world. When I was growing up, there was no fantasy as powerful, and that's what I wanted. Now, I can give that feeling to other people. I want to give this gift.
I've been reflecting recently on why I make games. It goes back to childhood - when I was a kid, nothing could take me away from reality like games could. Especially in grade 6, when I was bedridden, all I had to keep me company was my Game Boy Advance. Part 1/x
Gone to Gaia was hopping all day! LOVED seeing players having fun and getting lost in it for a while, it's the entire reason I make games ๐ค
And we're off!
Double the ducks
Ahhh wish I could be there at the Diana Jones ceremony ๐ ๐ flight delays or I would 100% be cheering for y'all
Good catch! It's a rouge-lite, similar to red, but a bit on the purple side ๐
Great breakdown of the game!
So stoked to unleash this at Gen Con!!
Thanks ๐
