Question: I've heard some people react negatively to the term "financial literacy" for a variety of reasons.
Does anyone have suggestions for alternate terms?
Hey all, it's been a while since I posted here.
I do plan on engaging a lot more in the weeks to come.
Insert funny gif here... Oh, wait, you can do that now!
Iβm sorry to disappoint, but no federal judge will save America.
Well of course. @kenwhite.bsky.social just recorded Serious Trouble.
If you think you can do trust & safety better than a pro, give it a try...

Interesting that Jennifer Aniston is talking shit about JD Vance but had no problem working with his ex
Thank you for being so public about your struggles. It really helps people, more than you will ever know.
Ok, so I finally have the time to figure out how this slightly-less-crappy (who am I kidding--significantly less crappy!) website works.
Suggestions always welcome.
The public library at its best is maybe the most radically democratic of all public institutions, because it grants to children the same civic status and prerogatives it affords to all other patrons. Fight every attack on a childβs right to be just another patron. π

*David Attenborough voice* and now we see the newly-minted Heterodox Thinker emerge from its cocoon to begin the journey to the right wing grift-o-sphere
this guy attacks and disparages his colleagues, all but says outright that he doubts the objectivity of anyone who isnβt a white guy, and then flounces when his targets push back
there was a lot of ink spilled over ~2021 seeing the largest recorded increase in homicides. Now we're seeing one of largest recorded decreases in homicides. So... the pandemic was unique, and now we're seeing reversion to mean.

One of the major things about Bari Weiss is that she is a huge liar and constantly makes arguments full of deliberate misrepresentations like this:
I think about this Calvin and Hobbes a lot, nowadays.
Any help or suggestions would be so helpful. My friend has already reached out to NAMI and other groups.
@kenwhite.bsky.social could you put up a Popehat signal for help with this request?
A friend is looking for CA-based lawyers & resources to assist someone they know with a serious mental health condition.Β The individual in question is in pretrial incarceration on charges related to that condition.
It's been clear for 25 years, but today really underscored that the only consistent principle among the court's conservative judges is the desire for conservative outcomes. Federalism, originalism, textualism -- they're all just a means to an end, readily abandoned when inconvenient.
Murder is down 21.7% in 113 cities with data available through at least January. Still too early to know likelihood it will persist through the year, but does portend a massive national drop this year.
Down 21% in 48 cities with data at least through Feb 20.

OH MY GODβ¦
A Turning Point rep (Charlie Kirkβs org) tweeted this out and look at the response.
I think it'll be great to see the RNC take a stand on behalf of meritocracy and AGAINST hiring on the basis of identity by choosing Lara Trump as the next co-chair! www.foxnews.com/politics/lar...
It's not even a pardon. As POTUS, Trump could order the DOJ to drop the cases against him and no court could interfere. This is true even if a jury has already found him guilty, unless he's been sentenced & judgment entered. Under today's timeline, there's no way for judgment to enter by 1/20/25.
Also, the next time someone tries to blame a reform DA for homicide rates, be sure to point out it is hard for prosecutors to prosecute murdersβthe crime ALL reforms still go after aggressively, whatever drivel Fox News spewsβif the police donβt, you know, make arrests for murders.
Just finished this podcast. Really well done. Knew that, as with its βterrorismβ stings against Muslims, the FBIβs behavior in this case was comically inept. Just didnβt realize *how* inept. These βplottersβ were losers. It took the FBI to make them criminals.

And as @davidaustinwalsh.bsky.socialβs new book makes clear, that narrative was always a lie.
