The lesson they should learn isn't that they should pay McMann $5.75M, it's that they need to find the next Bobby McMann to avoid paying him $5.75M. You have to find excess value somewhere. Investing in a 30 year old (whose main skill is skating) long term ain't it.
If Vancouver is looking to send him out for not a lot back, sure. I think they probably hang onto him because nobody is going to give them a real return.

I feel like an under discussed aspect of the Leafs struggles is the degree to which Matthews production immediately fell off as soon as Berube became coach. Like perhaps we should consider systems issues before deciding the player is cooked.
Yes. The forward core is good. The goaltending is good. The defense needs surgery. They need a new coach.
