Coleen Vogel starts the afternoon bringing a group to share provocations. What is transformation? For whom? And how should it happen? #TCESG25
International water law has evolved over time. New frontiers involve looking beyond the blue water system to the cycling and atmospheric elements, which is critical in the context of #climatechahge according to Christina Leb
Toshio Koike shows how water, flood and disaster policies in #Japan have been modified after disaster events. And a new river management policy integrates flood prevention, exposure reduction and disaster resilience. Great examples of adaptive science policy for risk reduction
Gillian Martin MSP highlights the challenge to water management in #Scotland when water is not valued as a precious commodity, particularly around managing growing, competing demands
How nice to be in Nairobi on the day that Kenya Met Department launches their National Framework for Climate Services! And whilst we are busy outlining key priorities for pastoralist climate services @mercycorps.bsky.social
Picture of the top of the new Open Access paper in Global Environmental Change led by Marcus Taylor from Queen's University in Canada. The paper is entitled 'Integrating power, justice and reflexivity into transformative climate change adaptation' and was published on 19 February 2025 and can be found at https://authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S0959-3780(25)00018-4
Figure 1 from the new paper by Taylor et al shows that to make justice the focus of adaptation requires acknowledging power relations, embracing knowledge pluralism, fostering bottom-up actor coalitions and recognising tradeoffs and unintended outcomes of adaptation projects.
π’ New Open Access paper alert!
Led by Marcus Taylor, we argue that projects should centre justice as the primary goal of transformative adaptation by confronting power relations, embracing knowledge pluralism and bottom-up coalitions, & recognising unexpected outcomes. doi.org/10.1016/j.gl... 1/2
Katharine Vincent is introducing a user engagement workshop with disability groups in District 13 of Kanyama, Lusaka. People with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to the effects of flooding. We are sending storm alerts to these communities and tailoring the content to their needs.
Starting now-join us online!
Yesterday we had over 20 people from
agriculture, health, defence, fisheries, cabinet office and water come to hear more about #WISEREWSA co-produced early warning alerts for thunderstorms in #Zambia#UKAidWISER

So far in #WISEREWSA we have been co-producing thunderstorm alerts with urban populations-but today in #Lusaka we are engaging with other sectors to see how nowcasts could be useful to them #UKAidWiSER @KulimaIDS
Good morning #Lusaka! Looking forward to a day introducing weather information to more Kanyama residents and planning for the #WISEREWSA βking sizeβ testbed of storm nowcasting in the 2024/5 rainy season #UKAidWISER @KulimaIDS
Terrifying

This one has been a long time coming, but congratulations #SouthAfrica πΏπ¦ (and all my colleagues who have had inputs into it) on signing the Climate Change Bill into law

And I will also continue to be inspired by @JoyObando24703 who has had such a big impact on supporting development of up and coming researchers, and encouraging them to communicate research findings beyond academic audiences 2/2
Good morning #Johannesburg! Looking forward to joining colleagues @WitsGCI to discuss people-centered early warning systems #EW4ALL
Enjoyed some thoughtful discussions at the #WCSSP meeting on how we can better connect science to services in #SouthAfrica. Some of the user needs we identified last year are already being addressed!
Great to join my second #WCSSPSouthAfrica annual science workshop and hear the wide range of work in climate science and services in South Africa (and see colleagues and friends, of course π) @MetOffice_Sci @CSIR @ARCSouthAfrica @WitsUniversity @SAWeatherServic
And @KulimaIDS also plays a role in WP6 which looks to create and model different transformation pathways that have been co-created with stakeholders and informed by research across the project
Today is the review meeting for @fosta_health and it's a reminder of how proud I am to be part of this really transdisciplinary project to support food system transformation for one health in #Malawi #SouthAfrica #Tanzania #Zambia.@KulimaIDS

Sunrise in Maputo on the last day of the #WISEREWSA co-production and testbed co-design workshop. Lots of ambition and tangible plans to realize the aim of producing and inclusively communicating thunderstorm early warnings throughout the next rainy season #UKAidWISER
Full house today in Maputo as we workshop with intermediary organizations how in #WISEREWSA we can scale access to co-produced early warning alerts of thunderstorms #UKAidWISER
Peggy from ZMD highlights how #Zambia has improved their forecasts after the #WISEREWSA testbed and also expanded their communication channels, with plans for audio forecast messages to reach people with visual disabilities #UKAidWISER
