In Councillor Holyday's world, no school lunch program or free TTC rides for kids. I think both of these are broadly popular policies across the political spectrum and have clear benefits for kids/families.
There isn't a way for the Mayor to delegate the authority over the budget back to Council in the legislation (unless the Mayor doesn't present a budget by Feb 1). Mayor Chow won't veto any budget amendments made by Council. So same as before, except the Mayor provides the starting budget.

One could say that there are many more Uno players on the LRT than the cars waiting to turn left. Cars have to wait their turn.
He knows, he just wants staff to say it. This is a typical questioning style at Toronto City Council.
Internationally, the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic Article 29.1 says βWhere a railway uses a carriageway, every road-user shall, on the approach of a tram or other rail-borne vehicle clear the track as soon as possible to allow the rail-borne vehicle to pass.β Streetcar over everyone else.
And to say that if the streetcar is always being cautious, then people learn that they can cross/turn in front of it. The streetcar needs to own the road.
The Waterloo ION LRT even has locations where conflicting movements arenβt on separate signals, but there are flashing signs when a train is approaching. Waterloo runs there LRT quite well, I donβt remember there being ridiculous slow orders.
I was on the 509 Sunday evening and sat at the front. I was so confused why we slowed down at every intersection. All conflicting movements with streetcars are signalized. A blanket slow order makes no sense, operators should be trusted to use caution at intersections (like everyone should).
A TTC employee carrying a knife. I will be interested to know why they had the knife. It likely isnβt related to their job as they were charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.
Seems like they should have ended at 6pm and came back tomorrow. Only 15 members voted in the last recorded vote.
They are really pushing the βprotect Ontarioβ by saying βAmerican-styleβ fixed-election dates. Maybe Ford will want to have an almost 5 year term this time.
Go on a walk and see how many people have illegal plate covers to avoid cameras/tolls or accountability.
Make having an obstructed plate a parking violation, then parking enforcement could help enforce. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Ontario needs more automated enforcement, not less. Automated enforcement for blocking intersections, turn/entry prohibitions, and bus lanes. These cause congestion or block transit and automated enforcement would help a lot. The police have other things to do than traffic enforcement.
Speed camera penalties are only monetary penalties. A speeding ticket from a police officer results in demerit points (16km/h+ over) which impact your driving record and insurance. Hopefully police do speed enforcement if cameras are removed.
401 tunnel yet the highways 11 and 17 are dangerous and mostly 2 lane. The 400 still isnβt finished to Sudbury. Crazy crazy.
Canada should further move away from the US and be like most of the world by finishing metrication. It would take some public education but maybe people would be on board. Thatβs my take of the day.
Kingston Transit updating its data to show the detour on Transit and onboard stop announcements and screens! Fantastic! Itβs the small things that make a great rider experience. Much better than having to decode a text service alert. I shouldnβt be shocked that they did this, should be standard.
Did Perks state why he was opposed?
Maybe we should bring back trolleybuses! I think we all want a subway though, but bus lanes can be done by next year.
Probably many visitors will be from places with great BRT networks and wonder why there are not dedicated BRT stations.
Alright, I'll say it: people in buses ARE better than people in cars, Stephen
As for loading and parking, these should be accommodated on the side streets. It was disappointing that this was not done as part of these RapidTO projects.
In Chow's 2014 Mayoral run, one of slogans was "Better bus service. Now." Toronto has a city-wide frequent bus network, but lets it get stuck in traffic. Every route that has 10 min or better service should have transit priority. Bus lanes save money for everyone and will get people moving.
The parked car almost has personhood or protected species status in Toronto.
It seems like everyone was participating in-person (surprised Nunziata hasn't commented on this yet). They were being too loud then all disappeared.
Did you participate in the Webbwood count game? Count the number of people you see when passing through Webbwood.
Greater Sudbury Transit and one of the better bilingual names - GOVA!
Park Hours: Apr 1 to Oct 31, 6am-10pm; Nov 1 to Mar 31, 6am-6pm.
Does Oshawa have some of the most restrictive park hours? All parks except one have these hours.
