A second smaller fire fountain opened up next to the big one several hours into the eruption.
As the eruption progressed, both fountains shrunk in height and eventually stopped. This photo was 4 hours after the start of the eruption. It was over by morning.
One week ago, I got to witness an eruption at Kilauea HalemaΚ»umaΚ»u crater. The fire fountain was hundreds of feet tall, it was incredible! I am just getting around to playing with my photos from that night, so enjoy this belated look at eruption #11 in the 2025 sequence ππ
Heading home from a wonderful seminar visit to U of Hawaii Hilo and Manoa. Saw humpback whales, sea turtles, amazing landscapes and one of my bucket list natural wonders- a fire fountain!! Thanks Kilauea (episode 11 on 2/25/25 for the volcano nerds who want to know) π€©
