"first 90% vs last 10%" ignores non-technical barriers (e.g. interconnection delays, Tx deficits, local opposition, etc) that speed-limit or cap progress. Next-gen geothermal and nuclear aren't just for the "last mile" - they manage these other risks and reduce fuel costs. Let's drop this 90/10 view
Note that Ontario Power Generation's recent SMR procurement are coming in around $150CAD/MWh.
New Bill: www.mass.gov/info-details...
ISO-NE Study: www.iso-ne.com/static-asset...
New bill in MA opens the door for state procurement of energy projects and repeals the need for a statewide ballot initiative to build new nuclear, thoughts?
A 2024 ISO-NE modeled 15GW of SMRs would reduce RE needs by 57% (at $70/MWh by 2050). 2x cost results in 10GW.

Does low-emission #ammonia for #power make sense?
1. Blue ammonia cuts LNG GHG by ~50%βat double the fuel costs
2. Co-firing risks NOx and NβO emissions (273x GHG warming of CO2)
3. Abatement is ~$400/tonne (w/o NβO)
4. Replacing Japanβs gas would take 120MT/yrβ6x global ammonia

@volts.wtf Concerns relative to what? This linked study fails to mention key points: (1) the alternative to SMRs was 8.9 GW of wind, solar, AND storage AND Tx upgrades (assuming 1 GW 4-hr battery results in ~$18B CAD before Tx upgrades using IESO resource costs), and (2) IESO sited land constraints
Big news out of Ontario: gov approves Canadaβs first small modular reactor.
As electricity demand surges, we need every reliable, carbon-free tool weβve gotβand nuclear can play a role alongside other generation, storage, transmission, and demand-side solutions.

I'm not a Texas resident, but I follow power market design debates closelyβand it's hard to miss how far SB715 diverges from sound analysis and expert consensus.
Business groups, manufacturers, industry, ERCOT leadership, and thermal generators raised concerns.
