Fred Van Lente might be the best thing to ever happen to Valiant comics. These books were a ton of fun.

Absolutely bonkers movie. All I remember about seeing this when it came out was the scene where the dog swallows the cat. Did not remember all the weird gags that don't mesh well with anything else in this movie.
So today in my big Avengers reading project, I finished volume one. The OG run. Now I have to decide if Iβm going to skip right to Bendisβ era, or power through Heroes Reborn and the Johns/Austen stuff. (I reread Busiekβs run last year, so I donβt feel I need to do it again so soon.)
Capβs first confession? How GD ugly that costume is.
Never forget, this is how a Green Lantern died. Weirdest way for a superhero to bite it.
Update: Iβve just finished the James Asmus reboot of Quantum & Woody and itβs pretty dang good! A lot of funny bits in it! And Steve Lieber art on Quantum & Woody Must Die!
Dr. Anna Peppard examines the history of Carol Danvers' costumes and Marvel's current obsession with miniseries that put its women back in more dated looks.

I have finished the second leg of my Valiant Comics deep dive, having finished the Acclaim era of 1997-1999 and though there were some decent books, Quantum & Woody is still hands down the best thing from that brief era. Might even be my favorite thing from Valiant altogether.
Pardonez moi, but do zey evair drop zee bit?
This is from Shadowman #19, which came out in 1998. I donβt know if writer Serge Clermont knew things back then or the dialogue just aged poorly.
With my new Scott Hasnβt Seen t-shirt, I can officially confirm that @scottaukerman.bsky.social of @cbbworld.bsky.social has seen Logan Lucky!
Second leg of the Green Lantern readthrough starts today!
Comics are wild, yβall.

Please note that The Complete Hal Jordan Experience is relegated exclusively to reading comics and does not involve:
- Flaking on every job.
- Dating underage aliens.
- Killing all your space cop coworkers.
- Watching a particular Ryan Reynolds movie.
Okay, so finished up the first leg of my Complete Hal Jordan Experience, having finished 224 issues of Green Lantern! Now before I jump into the next volume of GL, Iβve got a bunch of spinoffs, tie-ins and miniseries to read!
Iβve done it! The first leg of my journey through the history of Valiant Comics is over! Iβve read all the books from the original era of β91-β96! Some surprisingly good stuff in there, despite most of the books fizzling out at the end.
Now onto the Acclaim Entertainment era of β97-β99!
Overall, I'm glad I watched this in the span of a little over a month compared to how frustrating it probably would have been watching it over the course of seven years. And the Luke Perry tribute was nice. (6/6)
Cheryl Blossom is still a menace though.
Also, I don't know how they'd manage it, but Betty Cooper has so much serial killer baggage, she should absolutely be on the next season of Dexter. (5/6)
And speaking of Riverdale going to the 50's, since Tabitha was responsible for all the time travel stuff, why did she make Tom Keller and Frank Andrews into homophobes when they were pretty accepting of folks prior to that, while resurrecting old villains and making them (somewhat) less awful? (4/6)
And while I liked the final season, it was definitely a comedown going from season six where it went from alternate timelines, fighting a warlock, everyone having superpowers and a comet striking town to 1950βs censorship, communism scares, and general bigotry. (3/6)
The most impressive thing about this show was that it did over the top twists, gothic horror, and pop musical sequences better than anything Ryan Murphy has ever made! It beats out Nip/Tuck, American Horror Story and Glee combined! Greg Berlanti ate his lunch! (2/6)
So I finished all seven seasons of Riverdale today, along with both seasons of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (alas, Katy Keene is not available for streaming so that'll have to wait) and as described by people that *both* loved *and* hated it: It was an absolutely bonkers show... 𧡠(1/6)
I used to draw that carrot on my notebooks in high school!!!
Just got in the new @cbbworld.bsky.social action figures of Reggie Watts and @bibbymoynihan.bsky.social's Fourvel!
The poster for the 2026 movie The Wrecking Crew, starring Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa.
This movie is PERFECTION. Buddy action from the director of Blue Beetle, written by the creator of Warrior, produced by Matt Reeves. This should have gone to theaters. Hits all the right notes for modern Lethal Weapon vibes. Very early favorite for 2026!
Itβs going to sound weird, but Shoot To Kill. The scene where Clancy Brown throws four people off a cliff to their death? Fucked me up and made me terrified of hiking in high places.
The poster for the 1994 movie The Chase, starring Charlie Sheen and Kristy Swanson.
Currently watching The Chase, a perfectly normal movie starring two perfectly normal people.
The poster for the 2025 movie The Ugly Stepsister
Watched this last night and it was great! Loved the score! But not for the squeamish!
