My department at Princeton is hiring an assistant professor specializing in the study of early Christianity. First round materials are cover letter, cv, and writing sample. Letters will be requested for later stages. Deadline: September 30, 2025.
Iβm so sorry for your loss, Carrie. I know this pain well and am sending so much support. π
Our search for a tenure-track colleague in Early Christianity continues! (Last yearβs search was among those canceled due to budgetary uncertainty.) This search is at the assistant professor level. More details in the linked description below; review of applications begins on September 30.
Sometimes the strangest opportunities arise, and this was one of them. Last week, Wright Thompson invited me to a Red Sox/Yankees game to talk about ancient sacrifice for his piece on Aaron Judge. Sadly, he left out the fact that I showed up in Red Sox gear!
Let me tell you why this is not a joke...
Of course!
I most definitely just bought this to wear in week 3 when I teach about monotheism (and teach this text!) :)
Clearly I missed the party plane! (Thatβs what I get for flying out of JFK.)
I think when it comes to Pβs idea of sacrifice, it doesnβt work. The Girardian focus on killing/violence as the operative act is fundamentally at odds with how P presents its own theory of sacrifice. Not that there isnβt a literal scapegoat in P, but itβs the one sacrifice that isnβt killed.
Thatβs the best to see her with your kid! Such a great photo, too.
Amazing!!
After a long hiatus, Iβm returning to this side of social media and this is the kind of content Iβm here for. π»π»
It has been an honor for my English edition of P to be included in the World Literature in Translation series at UC Press, not least because it makes this important text accessible and affordable, especially for classroom contexts. I was very excited when they were also willing to publish the Hebrew text and have been working with proofreaders and production on the ebook. However, when I received the print editions last week, I was surprised to see that the Hebrew section had been paginated left to right. After following up with the press, I was informed that this was the only way they were able to print the book. Unfortunately, this was not communicated to me earlier in the process. Nevertheless, I am pleased that this paperback remains very affordable ($24.95). Please note that this is not a problem with the ebook, which is available in PDF format ($24.95).
