Album reviews: modernism, minimalism and melancholy — Five Lines
Reviews of three recent releases from New Zealand artists featuring composers Annea Lockwood and Anthony Ritchie and classical guitarist Matthew Marshall.
Another generous review of my Annea Lockwood album - this one from Five Lines in New Zealand by Elizabeth Kerr. I look forward to presenting Annea’s work at @counterflows.bsky.social and @musicintheround.bsky.social this spring! www.fivelines.nz/articles/ul6...

There are so many! I was happily thinking today about the palindromic bass in Paul Simon’s You Can Call Me Al.

I’m so sorry the people behind grok harmed you in this way. I too wish the stuff about your net worth was true. Thank you so much for all the advocacy you do.

Am I pushing an agenda by making a community radio show in a small town in Canada? Well, I do have aspirations of an RSS feed so absolutely yes.

My cohost and I are both Autistic.
I'm quite introverted and he is super outgoing.
I do the research, writing and editing.
He does all the stuff I find hardest, like interacting with people and thus being yelled at about how we are divisive and "pushing a woke agenda about gender stuff".

Harp strings “prepared” with alligator clips
Not one. Not two. Not even three, but FOUR harps will grace the stage for my piece at @lsostlukes.bsky.social as part of the @lsocomposers.bsky.social @londonsymphony.bsky.social Soundhub extravaganza this spring. Plus, some inspiration from astrophysics. www.lso.co.uk/whats-on/sou...

A pleasure! It was about a decade ago, but they helped a relative of mine when he was homeless for a year or so. And let's just say he was similar enough to me that I'm pretty sure he was autistic too even though he never identified as such.

Wow. It’s Thursday already! That means Autistic Small Talk is about to air on CHSR. Episode 4, I believe, which is about monotropism and neuroqueerness.
And opens with a sweet story from local herbalist Sarah about her autistic brother.

This is such a bummer. I worked really hard on this one.

Nicholas Winton helped 669 Jewish children escape the Nazis. His efforts went unrecognized for 50 years. Then in 1988, while sitting as a member of a TV audience, he suddenly found himself surrounded by the kids he’d rescued, now adults.
I like to remember this every Jan 27th.

I first got the audiobook from the library and liked it so much I bought it and listened to it 8 more times (so far). I honestly can’t recommend it enough if you are at all interested in autistic potential and empowerment, the neurodiversity paradigm, and/or the ways gender and neurotype intertwine.
