All 0.5 degree scans from KLOT of the supercell in ILL/IN yesterday evening. Markers show hail reports larger than golf balls and tornado reports as they happened
The roads were just beginning to get rained on, they were definitely at that slick stage
I keep watching the footage and I can only guess I hit an oily patch or something the way my tires slid, it was completely unexpected. Annoyed at myself for not being more cautious! I am fine, it wasn't too hard of a hit thankfully.
The chaos Element has sadly been injured in battle. We will resume storm chasing possibly by mid April
Some footage from the stormchase yesterday around north central Texas #txwx #stormchasing #hondaelement
March 10th, 2026, Pontiac, Illinois - rotating wall cloud with RFD beginning to cut in minutes before tornadogenesis
Possible tornado today, 9 miles south of Baird TX #txwx #tornado
I had an escape route in mind, but when I tried to take it, it didnt exist. I had not realized there was a whole massive military base to my east, so I ended up committing to riding it out in the bear's cage
Cautiously zero metering a broad rain-wrapped tornado near Gatesville. Wanted to get a glimpse of this monster and avoid the forward flank baseballs. Got as close as I could by watching for the clear slot and rotating raincurtains, but it passing still spooked me with its shadow #txwx

goosebumps
So when I jokingly talk about touching grass, there's really more to it, and it's completely serious. If you can get out there and connect with the people around you, take in the world, exist in it, appreciate it, it helps settle your nervous system like nothing else.
Interacting with real people across the country face to face has brought me clarity on how people really -are- good despite how the algorithms online curate a different story for each of us that divides us. That new perspective has kept me whole and sane through this current era.
When everything comes together right, it's frission. It's awe at power and beauty I can barely comprehend. It's an incredible sense of being a very small part of this world and a grounding perspective for me that heals my fear of being seen, which has been a large stumbling block for me.
Many times I hear people comment that I must enjoy adrenaline and the thrill of the chase -- and while I do, that isn't actually what's happening while I'm out there. I feel a sense of calm and purpose, and a level of peace that I don't usually get in my daily life.
Storms initiating at sunset north of Turkey, TX yesterday #txwx
sunset lit storm clouds over an open road
Photo of a Honda Element parked in front of an old abandoned church on the side of a road with stormy skies lit up in sunset colors on the back of forming supercells in the distance
I missed supercell sunsets #txwx
Reviewing footage, I should have known to stick with it! That wallcloud was looking nice, but it was so difficult to make out with the passing headlights messing with my night vision
The storm I was on today didn't go tornadic until I called off the chase to head back, rip. Had a lot of fun though, I needed that drive #txwx
