Anyway all of this is endemic of the mode through which we monetize video game development. It's shifted to offloading risk from the wealthy publisher that can afford it (tencent) to the poorer developer that cannot (wildlight)

A boom-or-bust game industry is partially to blame, but a company not preparing any runway to pay employees for at least six months outside of an infamously capricious Tencent has to take some of the blame here.
This is devastating.
I really liked Highguard, but it's a victim to an unsustainable infinite-growth model that is increasingly cancerous to games. These all-or-nothing launches all but guarantee an ejection of top-tier talent from the industry altogether.

Like, why do execs keep investing in Live Service Games. Enough? Players are all in on the things they like because it's predictable, all their friends are there, & a lower barrier of entry.
Game devs don't make it past the first 45 days before some form of layoff.
And they're expensive to make.
Imagine spending so much money to launch a game and not have the ability to support it 6, 8, 10 months of it being live.

I'm currently in line right now for early voting in Williamson county and everyone is complaining and pissed about
1. The wait. It's gonna take an hour- 1 1/2 to vote
2. It's hot.
3. Other polling places are full and are also running into 1 - 1.5 hour waits.
The frustration is palpable.
Hey if you wanna hear how disenfranchised Texans are: Texas Republicans have made it harder to vote for everyone by removing convenient polling places and limiting where people can vote.
Theyve also made it harder to vote on election day by eliminating even MORE polling places.
