And even the west coast will show increased erosion caused by losses of sand from most beaches.

Earth Lover. Geology ⛏️, cartography🗺️, earth history, coastal processes 🌊 , sedimentation, volcanism🌋 , climate 🌎, soils…Oh, and bonsai🪴 and bad poetry and bad poetry about rocks 🪨 It is impossible to be bored, on such an amazing planet

Wait, what?
Can’t get to the article…but assuming the map in reference either displays areas where the study found that estimates of sea level rise has already been underestimated…or a map simply showing the original estimates.
Either way, most of SE, NE will be hit hard…
Watching Trump address the nation #today …I’m reminded of the old saying…
“The drapes don’t match the carpet bombing.”

It’s a feature, not a flaw.
Just hoping Homo Anthropocen-ends-us doesn’t fulfill their destiny.
It just occurred to me that buying out senior level government employees is a wonderful way to stifle dissent…effectively removing those with both the most knowledge and the least to lose if they were to suddenly find themselves out of a job.
What can I say. I’m a geologist, not a cogitator.
I am the AI
Wait…A stands for Anthropocene, right?
Be the I your AI mimics.

Was thinking the very same thing…Very Scarry!
I will never forget my first SEPM Field Trip and Conference, nor the beer sag wagon…and its effects on the outcrop debates as the day wore on.
Best field trip ever.
Shit. Just realized I have a son in prime draft age.
This is US.
Welcome…if you decide you want them and can’t find them at a reasonable price, let me know.
So you’re saying there’s a chance!

Cannot reply directly to post…but I have used these for closeup photography of microorganisms.
I think the trick is getting less than a full case of them…they aren’t cheap but are surprisingly clear for plastic.

I knew one of the scientists at NOAA that stood up to Trump during the SharpieGate debacle. He retired a hero during the Biden Admin.
It sorrows me that it takes 100x that effort to stand up to the crazy in Trump2 era. Many EPA, NOAA staff reeling with insane budget cuts, furloughs, morale hits.
It is notable to remember that our parents did not live the way we do now…with every free moment spent in the pursuit of making a living, the demands of modern administrative/bureaucratic systems, and the fretting about politics.
Simpler times mean more enjoyable times.
“Hormesis is your friend!”
When I bought the shrimp…the store attendant said… “I think there are some ostrocods that got into the bag…is that OK?”
“Okay? Hell yeah that’s OK!
Remembering to stop to think, make a bad poem, listen to a favorite song, enjoy something beautiful, read something of interest, draw up a plan or list of things to do someday is an act of defiance in these times.
These are luxuries that are affordable and which can be done in small bits of time.

They really love the addition of the #JavaMoss and log…as do the #shrimp!

Five “Gold Tetras” showing coloring of silver, gold, blue and red…depending on direct lighting and viewing angle. Large. Hunk of Java Moss on the wood provides a place to explore…and more.
#Tetras are amazing in their diversity and beauty. There seem to be a thousand niches they fill, and highly adapted to them.
These Gold Tetra reportedly have a symbiotic bacteria that lives under their scales that give them their shiny silver or gold color.

Wait, what year is this?
Had someone just say they are challenged by giving a presentation to a screen instead of live faces in person!

Took me a minute to figure out where this is…need to get there some day.
Taking son to OSU a couple years ago..I was floored by how many California kids were there…bypassing the very low cost in-state tuition to pay Oregon’s out of state tuition rates…
Quite welcome. What a contrast between 1987 and today. The 1987 trip was a small scientific conference that I crashed…mostly volcanologists from the CVO, but also biologists and geomorphs. There were so few signs of recovery at the time that they were pointed out individually in the blast zone!
