New article, coming from yours truly (from 2nd yr doctoral student me!): www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Congratulations!
And to my friends, mentors, and family both near and far who cheered me over the finish lineβI could not have done it without my village!
I successfully defended my dissertation on Monday. So grateful for my committee (John McLaughlin, Judith Newman, Ting Guo) for their care in stewarding me through the process and, along with the external examiners(Corrie Carvalho, Reid Locklin), for their generous, thoughtful questions & comments.
Cat in harness and leash on top of a stool on a deck.
There is always so much work to be done, and then there is my cat, begging to go outside to play. Guess who won.
Ah, a very early draft proposed looking at Cantopop/Cantonese protest music. That was too big a project, alas.
It's a play on Jer 20! I archived a few literary works from across the transpacific. And no music, alas, unless you're asking what I wrote toβin which case, a lot of pop rock/emo from the 90s and 00s π
A public announcement of my defence on June 23 at 1:30pm.
Forgot to post this here, but I'm delighted I am (finally) getting to defend. #PhDLife #almostPhDDone
"I know the world is bruised and bleeding, and though it is important not to ignore its pain, it is also critical to refuse to succumb to its malevolence. Like failure, chaos contains information that can lead to knowledgeβeven wisdom. Like art."

#everynightapoem, against distraction.
After a busy SBL, I'm cat-sitting for a friend, and one of their cats has already attached themselves to me. Holiday bliss.
One month 'til we're reunited (though I'm pretty sure someone else has her heart now). #catsofbsky
Xenia Chan's SBLAAR schedule
Hopefully I will be over this cold and will have my voice back next weekend! Looking forward to catching up with friends and colleagues.
Thanks for the boost, Matt! And welcome to everyone joining π
I'm on my last stretch of my #PhD and trying to finish my dissertation. So, to help, I'm stepping off all social media. Prayers and good vibes appreciated! Catch y'all on the flipside!

Finally finished writing my final #SBLAAR2023 paper at 3 AM this morning. Excited to present at the #IBRAABI and the #As/AsAmHermeneutics units this year! T'will also be good to see friends again.
