These are a few of the Christmas ornaments carved to donate to the Texas Woodcarvers Guild. They have asked carvers to carve unfinished carvings which they will give to the Kerrville Texas VA Hospital. The VA Hospital will use them as crafts for their patients to finish. #woodcarving #carving

Nice carving John! It is nice to see someone else doing two sided chip carving. I do the same thing for Christmas ornaments. I hope you show both sides when you have completed them.

I agree John. Chip carving has always attracted me because of the geometric designs. I love the symmetry and shading Chip carving provides.

This is my second project chip carving a painted surface. I thought I would paint the edges and back but I will leave it with a wax finish. This is a Barry McKenzie design.

John, I have a silly question. Do you always cutout your patterns before chip carving them? Most of the time I put the pattern on a piece of wood, chip carve the design, and then cut it out. I know this is just a preference for everyone but I am curious. Dave

I liked the confused ghosts. Is it Halloween or Christmas? Only they know. Then you have a pumpkin man! Do I know what I am carving? Who cares, they were fun to carve.

Happy Halloween! I saw the three small ghosts on Pinterest and had to try them. I liked the good, bad, and monster ghost. The trick-r-treater is an old project finally completed.

I drilled a 1 inch hole through the block of wood along the grain first. I have to be careful not drill to deep because you would have a hole in the roof. Then I drill the holes that let you see the lights. Normally I paint them red or green. But this individual wanted a walnut stain.

I haven’t posted in a while, sorry. I forget to take pictures before they leave the house. Two 4” lanterns carved as a gift. Drilling the holes is harder than carving the lanterns.

This is the start of a display by our carving club. It is the Three Little Pigs stick/wood house blown over. These are crape myrtle bush branches.

I saw a lighted lighthouse that was a carving club meeting project. So I thought I would try to carve one. This came out like a Doug Linker lighthouse. I think I will try another with a different design and setting on some rocks.

The next batch of comfort hearts have been chip carved and cut out. On to sanding which is not my favorite work but part of the hobby we must accept.

Jack, I liked your video on the bags to store my paints and finished. I just ordered from a company in Arizona and their product comes in bags! Two questions: 1. How do you get gel stain into a bag? 2. How do you store these bags so they do not get punctured? Again, great video and information!

I completed my Valentine carving! It only took a year. I carved last year but painted it this week. Just tag me a procrastinator.

I just finish a test of comfort hearts I will be donating in April to the Texas Woodcarvers Guild. April 4 thru 11 is their 2025 Woodcarving Show and Classes. The heart designs are by Charlene Lynum (great chip carver) in the Woodcarving Illustrated Spring issue. Now 10 or 12 more.😯
