The story of LLMs labeled as AI is a story about class, and which humans pay the cost, including the physical toll on their bodies/minds, and the lack of water and electricity, so data centers can exist.

This sort of smug, dismissive superiority from pundits - "oh, you were naive to think anything could be better" - is defeatist and lazy. There are a million different ways the world isn't the way it should be. That is an invitation for improvement! Use your platform to rally people for change!
Again, I have to laugh because if you say racism is central to the thinking of leaders in our society, people will treat you like a loon, but look at all the resources dedicated to racism.
I think that “people having beefs” seems to be a pretty inevitable part of the process of activism.
Arguably, it can be productive - people have to hash out disagreements in decentralized movements one way or another.
But maybe…try to keep more of that stuff to the Signal group chat.

recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best. My biggest New Year’s resolution this year beyond projects I want to get done is to take in less garbage. Take in less franchise slop movies and TV. Take in less reactionary politics especially from so-called progressive spaces. Take in less social media bitterness and vitriol.
