We were better off when gambling was illegal and something looked down upon as the vice of deadbeats, tax cheats and general scoundrels.
At least the local bookie didn’t have the gall to advertise on the fucking subway.

The House Oversight Committee voted in favor of the subpoena with bipartisan support.
So far the war in Iran has cost an estimated $5.5 billion.
That's roughly $1 billion per day.
$41,666,667 per hour.
$11,574 per second.
People do not want this.
They want a living wage. They want healthcare. They want to be able to afford a home. They want their basic needs met.
finally watched Casablanca. wild in this day and age for something to actually live up to the hype
I always take my religious advice from a used car salesman dripping in bling
The American press are letting them.
And then the #BrokenTimes editorial board bothsides even this...

I agree.
It's all a manifestation of #collapse. An inevitable consequence of #overshoot.
All the political and technocratic ideologies are arguably just reactionary. The real problems are rooted in fundamental constraints that we've long ignored at our own peril.
The hostile applications in the information space are bad enough.
When you consider its environmental impacts, the immense energy and water consumption, and the enormous amount of global capital diverted to these data centers instead of to the things we actually need. Cancerous is putting it mildly
All this is to say, survivalist fantasies aside, that anyone building a bunker without thinking of what their new post apocalyptic society will look like is a deeply unserious person.
Does the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker get to come? Or do they get their own death traps?
That’s solidarity, folks.
If it doesn’t pass this simple test, your little bunker is worth fuck all:
Have you thought about continuity?
Where’s your (insert everything you eat, drink & burn) going to come from in the wasteland? Are you also nurturing a hydroponic farm? How about energy?
Douglas Rushkoff had the best take on it, if you ask me.
The point of society is that we’re all able to survive thanks to the collective skills and labor of ALL of us.
I can’t produce a pin in my backyard, or grow crops, or raise dairy cattle.
None of us can, without all of us.
Reuters Exclusive
"U.S. military investigators believe it is likely that U.S. forces were responsible for an apparent strike on an Iranian girls' school."
"The strike would rank among the worst cases of civilian casualties in decades of U.S. conflicts in the Middle East."
Human centipede!
This is what heroin must feel like
It’s official.
This is amazing; am watching on C-SPAN3. If she had a staff member who liked her, that person would've walked up to her 15 minutes ago to whisper in her ear to get out of there.
But no one is protecting her. Any one of these attendees can break the news to her on live tv.
Nothing gives me more energy than basking in the work of the REAL ONES who are staying focused on fossil fuels and climate
extremely glorious news on that front: @emorwee.bsky.social is teaming up w/ former CBS climate journo Tracy Wholf for a new video podcast -->>>
This war on Iran is a case study in an administration that believes it has the means - and therefore the moral authority - to do whatever it wants.
It could have assembled a case, enlisted allies, stuck to a script.
But it can't be bothered, because it feels that to all be unnecessary.
We went from making up reasons like "weapons of mass destruction" to you know what, fuck it we don't need to even lie, the president "had a feeling" that they pose a threat so we just bomb them so we can. A country doing this can't expect peace inside.
Netflix had to submit an advanced look at its books to DOJ for merger approval.
If any of “Trump’s lawyers” are funneling discovery intel to the White House, then the antitrust division is nothing more than an insider trading network.

I love watching people argue with AI. Like they think if they can just ask the question in the right way to get the answer they want then it's somehow valid.
FT comments section this morning - saying what everyone else is thinking, right?
Over 40% of global shipping by volume exists to move fossil fuels from one place to another.
A huge share of the world's maritime infrastructure has been built around a system that is going to change dramatically as renewable energy and electrification displace fossil fuels.
This is a guy who’s screwed over every partner he’s ever had
Unless you have a very expensive legal team & pr team on retainer, he’ll fuck you over.
He’s the head bully in a dominance hierarchy of schoolyard bullies.
If he thinks he can bully you and get away with it, he will.
Sigh.

These people are the worst.
Which people?
…yes….
Collapse of media, consolidation of media and social media, general decline of media literacy across the board and technobarons weighting their algos…
This is where we end up.
The fact that this hasn’t already happened after the oodles of fuckery afoot should tell us everything we need to know.
McGovern: How the hell is this America first? You guys broke your top campaign promise. Good luck with that. I hope the defense contractor money was worth it. Shame on you all. The mask is off. You're all just a bunch of pathetic Neocon Warmongers.

This is totally normal…
And a sign of institutional collapse in what was once - very recently - considered an island of professionalism.
