And here's the recommendation: Longevity Conservation.

Since these old individuals are and important part of biodiversity (similar to old trees) we suggest ‘longevity conservation’ as a solution.

Older individuals make vital contributions to moderate and long-lived species, migratory animals and this where knowledge and cultural transmission are important. We refer to these as old animal storage effects and synthesise the benefits across life history strategies

Second, research conducted on old animals usually focuses on the negative aspects of ageing but that literature is changing rapidly.

Old animals across a wide range of taxa provide important ecological functions, but these are being eroded.

Absolutely fascinating study on how the old members of a species make vital contributions.
