Why Survivors Feel Shame. And Abusers Often Don't.
There is a painful, almost unbearable irony at the heart of abuse: the person who caused the harm rarely carries the weight of it. The person who survived it does. If you have lived through an abusive...
One of the cruelest ironies of abuse is this: the person who caused the harm rarely loses sleep over it.
But the person who survived it often spends years drowning in shame.

Holy Smoke
I am so excited to announce my cowrite with New Orleans artist Erika Torres and Zev Troxler (Warner Chappell; David Guetta, Grimes).
In a divided country, โHoly Smokeโ doesnโt wait for healing to arrive.โจIt sounds like a celebration of cultures coming together.

Anger can tell us a boundary was crossed.โจSadness can tell us something mattered.โจAnxiety can tell us weโre facing uncertainty.โจEven shame can point to old wounds asking for care.
The goal isnโt to suppress what you feel.โจ
Feel whatโs here.โจHelp your body settle.โจThen choose your next step.

If youโre feeling overwhelmed:
โข Limit exposure intentionally.โจโข Name the emotion (grief? rage? helplessness?).โจโข Remind your body: I am safe right now.โจโข Ground in something physical: your breath, feet in the ground, cold water on your wrists.

๐ก What actually helps:
โจโข Start with short pauses (30โ90 seconds)โจโข Choose active rest (walking, stretching)โจโข Keep your eyes open if that feels safer
โข Press your feet gently into the ground for 10 seconds.โจโข Relax the muscles in your body for 10 seconds.

Years of hearing that youโre lazy can do real damage to the way you see yourself. So glad you challenge these internalized beliefs.

Neurodivergent people arenโt an exception.
They are an essential part of humanityโs design.
Itโs time our systems caught up.

Imagine the world we could build if we stopped forcing neurodivergent minds to shrink โ
and instead designed environments where they could thrive.
Flexible learning.
Flexible work.
Flexible communication.
Environments that honor focus, flow, creativity, rest, and authenticity.

But today, we put those same minds into rigid systems and then wonder why they struggle.
The truth?
Itโs not the people. Itโs the system.
If 1 in 5 people think differently, then the โstandardโ is no longer standard.
Itโs outdated.๏ฟผ

For thousands of years, humans survived because we had different kinds of brains working together:
โ some scanning for danger,
โ some creating tools,
โ some building new solutions,
โ some connecting the group,
โ some spotting patterns others couldnโt see.

Neurodivergent people are living in systems never built for them.
When we force only one way of learning, working, or being, we lose the brilliance of the minds built for innovation, depth, creativity, and truth.
