"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."

-Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1953

I feel like I have a limited outrage budget. All I can do is observe that there’s no bottom to the cruelty, shake my head, and say that’s terrible.

Reflecting on how important it feels to have laughed with and hugged my trans friends yesterday.

I’ll do whatever I can to help get us out of this.

A town with a name so long that the label crosses over the English Channel onto the continent.

I’m doing a lot of work with AI coding agents now and I see them as a useful intern and they need to be told exactly what to do and what the program constraints are. And then they need code reviews.

Left to write whatever they want, they code a whole lot of technical debt.

I'm proud to be certified as a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate! Enough is enough, and we need action at the federal level to end gun violence and make our communities safer.

I am on the permanent vote by Mail list. In fact, my ballot for the primary is on my kitchen table. I will fill it out at my leisure, figuring out who I really want to vote for, and I will walk it over to the early voting location which is really close and drop it in the box.

Second, services like this offer their users a level of privacy. Breaking that privacy has to be done carefully and for a very good reason. I’m sure we don’t want to live in a world like in the movie Minority Report where the AI is checking us for precrime.

A few comments… First off, a report in the news is never detailed enough or captures the entire nuance of the situation. We don’t know what she was actually saying and hindsight is 20/20. 1/2

Papers don’t quote ANYONE like this. Normal human speech is LOUSY with ums, uhs, and doubling short words (a, I, the). You clean that up as a matter of course.

It doesn’t sound like we’re going to talk, it sounds like it’s going to be the same tired old counterfactual sound bites, at least regarding the technical parts and environmental impacts.

There’s no fair reporting on it and there really is no rational discussion on it so I’m bowing out.

The Obamas are the epitome of sophistication, class, intelligence, grace, decency and love. I’m so desperately missing presence like this in the White House.

I'll tell ya, when I pick up Bsky and someone says they'll only vote D in the midterms if the candidate is "good enough", it sure puts the "doom" in doomscrolling.

Article III: The judiciary. Ensures the laws are constitutional and are faithfully executed.

The entire problem here is that the executive is not a monarchy, it is the third tier of power, and its sole job is to execute the will of the people as expressed by Congress.

Trump thinks he’s a King…he’s so wrong. This is my view of the proper political hierarchy of the United States.

Preamble: We the PEOPLE! (Not including corporations)
Article I: The legislature. The representatives of the people. Makes the laws.
Article II: The executive. Carries out the laws.
…

No, not a political battle, willful mismanagement of a government agency that also happens to run airport security. The political battle is over curbing that mismanagement. The executive branch is rotten from the top down, and caused this problem.

(around an image of a masked ICE agent holding a gun) Republicans "One Big Beautiful Bill' nearly tripled funding for ICE. That money came from your benefits:

paid for by cuts to reproductive health care

paid for by cuts to Medicare & Medicaid

paid for by cuts to SNAP

paid for by cuts to clean energy projects

paid for by cuts to obesity prevention

paid for by cuts to disaster response

paid for by cuts to energy tax credits

I’m at a loss because all the money I sent to the DCCC has resulted in the Democratic Party we have today, and insane levels of text spam. I thought the money I sent them two years ago was going to save the country…

I fear that easier English-language access to trail guides will just take quiet natural spaces and fill them with loud, rude tourists. I’m an American, and I’m embarrassed about how some of my fellow Americans behave over in Japan.

The thing that makes me sad about this is that I just watched a video about how a village had to cancel their Sakura festival. Seems tourists found out about it, it’s now overcrowded, and people are …entering private homes unwelcomed to use toilets, and one case of pooping in someone’s garden.

Kinda like how gunpowder can make killing machines or fireworks. Instruments of death…or pretty pictures in the sky. At base, it’s just some mixed chemicals.

I don’t blame the toolmakers…I think on the whole, AI is neutral, agents are neutral, human activity is most of the problem. Even with the agents, most of the strange stuff they do is human-prompted. Humans gave them agency. Nobody has to post AI slop either.

There’s a difference between wasting the money, and perhaps not spending it. Once it’s spent badly, it’s gone. I’d rather they get frustrated at every turn that nobody will sell them warehouses for people, because it’s bad public image.
